9-1-1 star Kenneth Choi was actually singing during that legendary karaoke scene from season 2. The actor, who plays Chimney on the hit series, turns out to have quite the voice. The 9-1-1 actor claimed there was a lot of autotune involved, but maybe he’s just being modest.

Choi revealed this in a 2019 interview with TV Line. The Chimney actor went in-depth about that fun scene. When asked about the singing episode and if that was him singing, Choi joked about his voice. The performance was also incredibly nerve-wracking for the actor. It was his first big singing scene that he had to do on his own.

“Yes, it is. Me and probably some autotune. Probably a lot of autotune, actually,” he said. The interviewer with TV Line joked that his true calling is as a country music singer.

“Get out of here. I was petrified when I did it. If I ever sing at karaoke, I have to be six or seven beers deep, and I did this without any, so it was very nerve-wracking,” he said. Not to mention, the entire time, he had to act and know that the performance would be broadcast on NBC. “I did one other karaoke scene, but [Jennifer Love Hewitt] carried me through that one. This I had to do on my own.”

Jennifer Love Hewitt plays Maddie on 9-1-1. She had a child with Chimney last year. Fans were thrilled when the couple eventually got together and moved in. For a while, it looked like it wasn’t going to go in that direction. However, actress Jennifer Love Hewitt loved the idea of the two getting together and made it possible.

Chimney provided a much-needed support system for Maddie, who struggled after an abusive relationship. This season, however, things aren’t looking too good for Chimney and Maddie.

Chimney’s Tragic Role in ‘9-1-1-‘ Season 5

Everyone loves Chimney, and that’s why this season has hit so hard. Maddie, after suffering from a brutal bout of post-partum depression, dropped off their baby at the firehouse and fled into the night, leaving Chimney to raise their child alone and try and locate Maddie himself.

The season so far has had very little of Chimney and Maddie – much to fans’ disappointment. But there’s a good reason for it. Actress Jennifer Love Hewitt recently had a child of her own and is on maternity leave. That’s why Maddie was written off the show, at least for now.

Fans expect Jennifer Love Hewitt to return at some point. Hopefully, when she does, we’ll see more of Chimney as well. On the show, it looks like he’s getting pretty close to tracking her down, but there are a lot of burning questions about their future together if he does find her.

9-1-1 airs every Monday at 8/7 Central only on FOX.
