Ever wondered what it’s like to work with Rob Lowe on the set of 9-1-1: Lone Star? Ronen Rubinstein helped us answer that very question.

Ronin Rubinstein plays T.K. Strand on Fox’s hit show 9-1-1: Lone Star. He’s the son of Rob Lowe’s character, Owen Strand, who is the fire captain in Austin, Texas. You may recognize Rubinstein from some of his other work on films like Follow Me, Bushwick Beats, and Condemned. He also was a regular on the horror series Dead of Summer.

But out of all of those experiences, it’s hard to imagine that any of them come close to topping his time on 9-1-1: Lone Star. After all, he is surrounded by all kinds of veteran acting talent. During a 2020 interview with Assignment X, Rubinstein was asked about how excited he was to play the son of a character being played by Rob Lowe.

“Of course,” he said. “Any time you get to work with someone who’s been doing it for so long, and has such a career — I mean, I feel so fortunate and blessed to be in this position. Because I’m so fresh in this business.”

Rubinstein, who was originally born in Israel, may very well be fresh in the business. But Rob Lowe most certainly is not. He appeared in numerous television roles in the early 1980s. After that, his career really took off with roles in films such as The Outsiders, Class, The Hotel New Hampshire, Oxford Blues, St. Elmo’s Fire, About Last Night… and more. More recently, however, fans may recognize Lowe for his work in shows like The West Wing, Brothers & Sisters, Parks & Recreation Code Black, and of course, 9-1-1: Lone Star.

Ronen Rubinstein Learns from Fellow ‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Co-Stars

Let’s not fool ourselves here — Ronen Rubinstein has got it made. He gets to work with and learn from Rob Lowe and other stars on 9-1-1: Lone Star like Liv Tyler.

“And not only Rob Lowe — I get to work with Liv Tyler,” he explained. “And I just feel extremely fortunate to be able to learn and watch them every day on set, and to be beside them. It’s been amazing.”

As you can probably conclude for yourself, working with the industry’s very best is exciting and a great opportunity. Especially for young actors like Rubinstein. But on the other hand, he also knows that he has to be at his very best.

“The stakes are higher, but it puts you on your A game. And it really makes you a better actor, and a better person, and a better professional. I think that’s the biggest thing I’ve taken away, is that with the responsibility that I hold of playing Rob’s son, everything has to be elevated, and I think I’ve come up to the challenge.”
