‘9-1-1: Lone Star’ Wishes Ronen Rubinstein Happy Birthday With Funny Dig

by Suzanne Halliburton

9-1-1: Lone Star wished its favorite firefighter turned paramedic a very happy birthday, Sunday. But the show also took a playful dig at Ronen Rubinstein.

It seems that Rubinstein, who plays T.K. Strand on the show, gave too many details away for 9-1-1: Lone Star season three.

The tweet said “Happy Birthday to our favorite spoiler jail inmate, Ronen Rubinstein!” And there were wink and party emojis, so we know 9-1-1: Lone Star wasn’t really serious about being in jail, spoiler or otherwise.

How old is Rubinstein today? He’s 28. And from what we can tell, he didn’t give away many details of 9-1-1: Lone Star, other than to tweet “I never lie. YOU ARE NOT READY FOR SEASON 3. Goodnight.” He posted this Nov. 1.

About 20 minutes later, the official Fox social media account replied about spoiler jail: “picking you up 8am sharp tomorrow.”

Finally, 9-1-1: Lone Star Dropped a Season Three Tease

It’s all in good fun. Earlier in the evening, fans finally got to see a glimpse of a season three tease. Fox dropped it in the final credits of The Big Leap. The hour traditionally is occupied by the 9-1-1 spinoff, so it made sense to do the tease here.

And the season three premiere is embracing a brutal Texas ice storm. “Cold As Ice” is the song accompanying the video. There’s Rob Lowe as Captain Owen Strand. Then you see T.K., who is trying to rescue someone who had fallen into an icy lake.

Your feet will freeze just watching the 10-second clip. 9-1-1: Lone Star always is a wild adventure of crazy rescues. But there’s always an ounce of authenticity to the plots. Although the show is filmed in Los Angeles, it’s set in Austin, Texas. And the entire Lone Star State dealt with a historic ice storm earlier this year. Austin suffered through a blizzard and an ice storm in a matter of days. Folks in Texas lost electricity and water. Everyone was stuck in their homes for days.

T.K. Is One Half of ‘Tarlos,’ Show’s Favorite Couple

T.K. is a popular character on the show. One reason is fans love his relationship. He’s one half of the handsome couple known as “Tarlos.” His boyfriend is Carlos Reyes (Rafael Silva), an officer with the Austin Police Department.

Rubinstein embraces all that comes with playing “Tarlos.”

“It’s part of the job, man,” Rubinstein told the site DigitalSpy. “I always joke that it’s like I can almost expect it with any project that I do. For some reason, since I started, literally since my first movie, It Felt Like Love, I had a nudity scene. There was a love scene. I showed my butt. I was a 19-year-old kid. And it’s almost in every single project that I do. I guess I’m flattered.

“At the end of the day, it’s work,” Rubinstein said. “Hopefully, you work with somebody that’s professional across from you. So far in my career, I’ve been very lucky. You’re still doing work, and you’re still telling a story. Maybe if you work with somebody immature, it can be awkward. But for example, with Rafael (Silva), it’s been incredible. He’s such a pro, especially for it being his first project. He’s really embraced it, and has been a true professional.”
