‘9-1-1’ Sees a Major Character Exit in Explosive Episode 8

by Anna Dunn

9-1-1 just saw a major character exit in this season’s eighth episode. In last night’s episode, Rockmond Dunbar’s Michael left the series. When David revealed he was going to Haiti to help with Hurricane efforts, fans were shocked when Michael decided to join him.

At first, Michael was pretty upset when he learned David was going to Haiti. This means that the two would be spending a lot of time apart. David, who is a neurosurgeon, already works long hours so this wasn’t easy for him. But Michael already had a different plan… to propose.

Following a major surgery that involved a threat to the hospital, David walked out of the hospital and quickly found himself proposed to. He said yes. It was an explosive episode that had the two characters at the center. The exit shocked fans, but at least it was a happy- albeit bittersweet one.

Deadline reports that actor Rockmund Dunbar opted to leave the series over getting the COVID-19 vaccine.

“I have enjoyed the last 5 seasons with this wonderful cast and crew and will cherish the time I’ve been blessed to spend with this series and wish everyone involved nothing but the best,“ Dunbar said in a statement. Dunbar noted that he’ll take the time off to be with family.

‘9-1-1’ Also Said Goodbye to Another Character Recently

Meanwhile, 9-1-1 continues onward even though fans are quite sad to do so without Michael and David. It feels like fans only got to see the couple for a few quick seconds, but the episode that focused on them was truly touching. Even if there was a major threat to the hospital.

This also means that 9-1-1 has said goodbye to yet another character without fully being able to welcome back Maddie into the fold. In the season premiere, Maddie, suffering from severe mental health issues, left Chimney and her baby behind. Now, Chimney is on a mission to find her and bring her home.

But she likely will return to the series. Maddie actress Jennifer Love Hewitt recently had a child and is on maternity leave. So thankfully, fans of her character don’t likely have to worry about her absence from the show being a permanent one.

It looks like she could have been back East, and Chimney is close to finding her. Now he has to battle certain questions. Does he want to? What happens if he does? Not to mention, Chimney is a new dad, so the poor firefighter is dealing with a lot right now.

While it’s sad to see Michael go, there’s still plenty of 9-1-1 left to enjoy. If you want to catch new episodes you can tune in to Fox every Monday Night at 8/7 central.
