Jennifer Love Hewitt apologized to her family, friends, and fans after she realized she may have accidentally cheered when bad things happened to them. But in fairness to her, we’ve all been there.

The 9-1-1 star took to Instagram last week to make her embarrassing mea culpa. She said it all goes back to a single emoji. More specifically, the folded hands emoji — 🙏. Most people use folded hands to represent prayer. But there is a heated battle online over what these hands are doing.

The 42-year-old actress was horrified after seeing a TikTok of a man giving the “real” meaning behind the emoji. What if they’re not praying but are two people giving a high five? That would mean she’s celebrated every time someone she loves get sick or needs positive thoughts.

“Guys, I can’t even talk about what I’ve just recently learned,” Jennifer Love Hewitt said in an Instagram Story, according to Good Housekeeping. “I thought that the hands that are together in the emoji section of the phone, I thought those were prayer hands. I have, for a very long time, been sending those to people when I pray for them, when I pray for their family members or their situations, particularly during COVID. Praying, sending goodness, love, light.

“I did not know, and so, this is a public apology to all the people that I have sent what I thought were praying hands to, to say I’m with you. I’m praying for you and your loved ones or your friends or your family or all of us, sending goodness and all of that. And I have actually been high-fiving you the whole time. I’m so sorry. I’m 195 years old. I didn’t know!”

Fans Worry Jennifer Love Hewitt is Leaving ‘9-1-1’

Where is Maddie? That’s what fans of 9-1-1 — and her boyfriend Chimney — want to know after Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character vanished earlier this season. Now, some people are starting to worry she’s finished with the popular Fox series.

It started when Maddie quit the 9-1-1 call center earlier this season, saying she was losing her mind working there. Then, in the third episode, she disappeared. She left her baby, Jee-Yun, at a firehouse with a video message, “Jee-Yun is not safe with me, not now.” Since then, the father of Jee-Yun, Howey “Chimney” Chan, has searched for her without success. Chimney (Kenneth Choi) is getting closer to finding her, but he isn’t sure if he should. Maybe she needs time to sort herself out? The next episode of 9-1-1 airs tonight (Nov. 15) at 8 p.m. on Fox.

Before the season started, showrunner Tim Minear told TVLine that Maddie would suffer from a mental health crisis this season. But he says this isn’t the last we’ve heard from here.

“It’s a story that I don’t want to give short shrift to. It will end up creating a major complication for Season 5,” he explained.

In the real world, Jennifer Love Hewitt is on maternity leave. She announced in September that she gave birth to her third child. She is expected to return to the show.
