David Archuleta, the season seven second-place artist with the adorable smile, sweet personality, and an amazing voice on “American Idol.”

It’s no wonder countless people had a little crush on the “Crush” singer.

While Archuleta always seemed to have a bright smile on his face during the competition, what was really going through his mind while on the popular singing show?

David Archuleta Bad Experience on ‘American Idol’

At the time, Archuleta was just a kid. He was 17 when he started to wow his way through the competition. Now, he’s 30 years old and is reflecting on that experience from 2008.

He told Variety recently about some of the negatives that were mixed into his experience on “American Idol.” Although the show helped his music career, it did some emotional damage as well. If you remember that season at all, producers focused a lot on the contestant’s father, Jeff Archuleta. The singer said his father was always made out to be an “evil man” amongst all the highly publicized stories related to him.

Private conversations became news stories. Then, his father was eventually not allowed at any show rehearsals.

That was just the start of it, too.

“I get afraid to blame things on ‘American Idol,’ because something in me is programmed to say, ‘I have to be grateful, because where would I be without it?’ But at the same time, I’ve talked to other American Idol contestants about how we all have trust issues. Like: ‘You can’t trust anyone anymore, not even your own family … You’re powerless little bugs. If you step out of line, then you’re out of here, and you’re going to lose this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,’” Archuleta told the news outlet.

It all sounds unpleasant, but it’s even worse when you consider Archuleta’s young age. Also, most of these “American Idol” contestants haven’t been exposed to the music industry yet and how cutthroat and hardcore it can be.

The season ended with Archuleta losing to the other David, that is, David Cook.

The app is made up of plenty of TV fanatics. There are also ’90s babies with a passion for early 2000s music. It’s hard to forget Archuleta’s most popular tune to date, which was “Crush.”

Since his time on the show, Archuleta has continued to make music. He released an album recently called “Therapy Sessions” in 2019. Other even more recent singles include “Beast” and “Christmas Every Day.”

He’s also since come out as a member of the LGBTQIA community. His experience with faith and sexuality has been a huge focus for the star to discuss on his social media accounts and he’s had an impact on those going through similar situations.

“Please be compassionate. It’s something a lot of people go through silently because they are too afraid. That’s why I feel like we need to talk about this. I didn’t want to come out. I don’t want to make a big deal, like ‘Look at me.’ But I knew I had to and I needed to let other people know they are not alone,” Archuleta said, according to Deseret.
