‘American Pickers’: Danielle Colby Explained Why Mike and Frank Had To Be ‘Careful’ With Money

by Quentin Blount

American Pickers stars Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz didn’t have complete free reign on the show. As a matter of fact, they actually had to be careful with their money.

Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz have co-starred on the set of American Pickers together since the show first premiered on the History Channel back in January of 2010. Together, the two men would go around the country in search of various antiques and treasures.

Now, you may have thought that because Wolfe and Fritz are television stars, that they would have an unlimited amount of money to go picking. You might also think that both guys would probably prefer to buy in quantity than in lots of one and two. But that is simply not the case. Danielle Colby works in the office of the antique shop Antique Archaeology and she explained that Wolfe and Fritz had to be careful with how much they spent out on the road.

Danielle Colby told Famous Interview in a previous sit down that Mike and Frank actually had to watch their money. She said that when they hit the road, they often had a limited amount of money and they had several stops ahead of them. So both guys had to carefully plan out how much they should spend at each stop.

“You have to understand that those guys are grassroots guys,” Colby explained. “They don’t have a ton of money. When I send them out, I send them out to several locations.”

‘American Pickers’ Stars Don’t Spend Their Money in One Place

Danielle Colby makes it sound like Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz are just like your everyday kind of people. What would you do if you were in their shoes? Go all out and spend big in one place if you find something you like? Or would you, too, plan out a little budget for each stop during the trip?

“So, if you blow all of it in one place then they have nothing for the rest of the trip,” Colby said. “So, they do have to be kind of careful ’cause you never know when you’re gonna find a great, amazing 1912 Harley. You’re gonna come across something that’s the ship and then you’ve spent all your money. They’re pretty savvy in that regard too.”

Like Colby mentions there at the end, Wolfe and Fritz are pretty good about budgeting their cash for the show. After all, they are a lot more like everyday people than some of the other big-time TV stars out there. Because you better believe that if Mike Wolfe comes across an amazing 1912 Harley, he’s going to get it. We have covered his deep passion for motorcycles extensively here on Outsider.
