During its years on air, the popular reality television series American Pickers has brought us some amazing tales to go along with impressive finds. The series follows collectors including the show’s creator Mike Wolfe as the “pickers” who tour the country sifting through attics, basements, sheds, garages, barns, or whatever else you can imagine scoring some valuable antique finds. From old cars to pinball machines, classic toys, and of course bikes and motorcycles, the Pickers have pretty much found it all. But what are some of the most expensive picks the American Pickers have brought home during the show’s long and successful history? Well, let’s take a look at a few of the priciest items seen in the series so far:

1935 Auburn Phaeton 653

American Pickers fans know well that rare cars, bikes, and motorcycles continue to be a favorite item for the show’s creator, Mike Wolfe. So, this is very likely why the Picker snapped up this classic vehicle in a season 12 installment of American Pickers.

The Pickers purchased the 1935 Auburn Phaeton 653 for $26,000. However, this was only the beginning of the expense the experts would put into this investment.

It cost the show’s host $1,000 to ship the auto back to their headquarters. Then, when the antique arrived, the Pickers invested another $10,000 into the item to fix it up. In total, the Pickers invested as much as $37,500 into this rare vehicle.

Leather License Plate

While this item isn’t necessarily on the top of the “expensive” list cost-wise, it certainly has a home on the list considering what the item is…an old junky license plate. Well, that’s what many see at first glance. However, after closer inspection, the American Pickers knew they had a rare find on their hands when they discovered the leather license plate.

Apparently, while license plates are required these days, they weren’t such a necessity shortly after the invention of the automobile. Back then, drivers were simply assigned digits to go along with their vehicles. Rather than coming to drivers in the form of a plate, these digits arrived with the vague direction to display this sequence somewhere on their car. So, many people designed their own homemade versions of the plates we know today out of materials such as leather. The Pickers invested $1,000 on this rare find.

‘American Pickers’ Snag A Rare Motorcycle As One Of the Show’s Most Expensive Picks

In the season 17 premiere of American Pickers, fans see the show’s hosts break a major series record. They did this by investing $90,000 on one find.

While visiting a property in Oregon, the Pickers met Zane Leek and his mother Linda. While sorting through Zane and Linda’s property, the Pickers discovered something amazing, an Ace four-cylinder bike. This, fans of the series remember, is one of the most valuable motorcycles in the world. This bike was one of many other impressive finds in the lot. So, the pickers offered $90,000 for the Ace and a few other bikes in the collection.
