The hit talent show “America’s Got Talent” continues its hot streak with its 16th season finale killing it in the television ratings war.
The “America’s Got Talent” finale last evening, dominating the Wednesday night primetime spot rating. The NBC show took in an estimated 6.1 viewers as the finale was sure to deliver a lot of eyes on the show. CBS hit reality show “Big Brother” also did quite well, drawing 3.9 million viewers and a 0.8 rating.
Before “America’s Got Talent” came on the air, NBC watchers were treated to a new episode of “Family Game Fight,” which also did well with 2.3 million viewers and a 0.4 rating. But Wednesday evening belonged to “America’s Got Talent” as they unveiled their season 11 champions. Fans of the talent show were quite pleased with the outcome as a magician took home the grand prize of $1 million and a spot in Las Vegas.
“Congrats to Dustin Tavella!” the post from the show social media account says, “We can’t wait to see you in Vegas.”
Tavella was quite popular among the “America’s Got Talent” judges and its large-scale audience. His combination of magic and motivational tactics instantly made him a favorite among fans. Social media users rushed to congratulate the soon-to-be Vegas headlining performer.
“Talented and tremendously deserving!” an “AGT” fan says. “Congratulations. You are a life changer! Love you and your family!”
“Congrats and you are so very deserving of this year’s championship,” another fan writes. “I can’t wait to see you in Vegas!”
‘America’s Got Talent’ Crowns Latest Winner
The Wednesday evening finale was certainly a magic moment for Tavella as he captures the 16th season win. Before revealing the winner of the 16th season, host Terry Crews informed the audience that this vote is the closest they have ever had. Crews’ reveal added even more suspense to “America’s Got Talent” finale. Show creator and judge Simon Cowell echoed Crews’ statement, saying this season’s finale was the show’s most competitive one yet.
Tavella is the third magician to claim the top prize. He joins season nine winner Mat Franco and season 13 winner Shin Lim as magic acts to win the show. Throughout the season, Tavella spoke about his family and two adoptive sons.
“Before ‘AGT,’ I just never could’ve imagined my two worlds colliding – My passion for my magic and my story about my family,” he says.
As the final curtain dropped on the finale, it was the 35-year-old magician left standing. Upon his victory, Tavella profusely thanked everyone who voted for him and cheered him on throughout the season.
“Thank you guys so much,” he said to the judges as the confetti fell all around him. “This is absolutely amazing.”
