Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently preparing to welcome another grandchild following the announcement of his daughter Katherine’s second pregnancy. However, it’s not the only big news circulating the famous actor and former bodybuilder. Now, after more than a decade of separation, Schwarzenneger has officially finalized his divorce from his now ex-wife, Maria Shriver.
As the Daily Mail tells us, Shriver and Schwarzenneger remained famously estranged for years. The two hit a breaking point after news circulated that Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a son outside of their relationship.
Now, according to the outlet, the 10+ year-long divorce proceedings were finally officialized by a sitting judge at L.A. Superior Court early Tuesday morning. The government official entered the divorce into the court system after a private judge signed off on the documents earlier this month.
Looking from the outside in, 10 years seems like an impossibly long time to pursue divorce. However, the outlet states the process was lengthy due to a lack of motivation. It was topped by a complex property settlement agreement. Supposedly, while the settlement remains confidential, TMZ reports claim a total of $400 million served as a barrier to earlier divorce.
As to the child, Joseph Baena, “The Terminator” was unaware of his involvement until seven or eight years later. Baena’s birth fell on October 2nd, 1997. His arrival came just days following the birth of Schwarzenegger and Shriver’s fourth child, Christopher.
Nevertheless, despite the situation that drove Arnold Schwarzenegger and Shriver apart, the outlet reports the two have consistently remained cordial over the years. Since their split, the former couple has moved on romantically, each finding a new partner during their separation.
Why Joseph Baena Doesn’t Share Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Name
The conception of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s third son, Joseph Baena, served as a driving force between him and Maria Shriver. The film star became aware of his fatherhood to the child several years after his birth. However, it wasn’t until 2011 that it went public that Schwarzenneger was Baena’s dad.
Nevertheless, despite the drama, it appears Baena holds no grudge against his father. He instead aspires to have a career similar to Schwarzenegger’s.
In speaking with E!, the son of both Arnold Schwarzenegger and the star’s former housekeeper Mildred Patricia “Patty” Baena revealed the reason for maintaining his mother’s last name. And, despite what we might think, it doesn’t come from spite.
As Baena aspires, like his father, to be an actor and bodybuilder, he shared he wants to pursue his career on his own, rather than falling back on the famous Schwarzenegger name.
“There’s a few different variables in that,” Baena began, “But that’s just not my main priority at the moment, so I’m focused on building myself up and building my career in acting and real estate and just focusing on that right now.”
That said, he by no means holds any animosity toward Arnold Schwarzenegger. In fact, Baena shared, “I mean, my dad is a stallion. He’s a man’s man, I like to think, and I look up to him a lot.” He continued, “[I]n a way, he’s influenced a lot of things: the path that I have taken with acting, with fitness and my physique and the many other things that I’m doing.”
