America’s beloved Betty White had a long list of acting credits. Here’s one surprising role that everyone forgot that she played.

Betty White had a long and successful career. Fans are looking back at the icon’s many roles since her passing yesterday morning. While she is famous for portraying Rose in “The Golden Girls” and Grandma Annie in “The Proposal,” White’s IMDb lists some more surprising credits.

It turns out that Betty White as in an anime! The actress played Noriko in Studio Ghibli’s classic film “Ponyo.” The anime is about a goldfish princess who befriends a human boy named Sosuke. The more Ponyo [the goldfish] spends time with Sosuke, the more humanlike she becomes. These changes end up endangering Sosuke’s village in the process.

Betty White is the voice of Noriko, an older aunt who lives in Sosuke’s village. Although the role does not play a huge role in the story’s plot, White greatly enjoyed being a part of “Ponyo.” She talks about the film in an interview with Trailer Addict, calling Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki a “genius.”

The star-studded cast of the anime includes big names like Matt Damon, Noah Cyrus, and Tina Fey. “Ponyo” viewers give the film a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes. We’d recommend giving the film a watch in honor of Betty.
