If you have seen many episodes of “Blue Bloods,” you will know that the character Frank Reagan does not back down from doing what he believes is right. Over the years, this has put him in opposition with his boss.
As the commissioner of the New York City Police Department, Frank reports to the mayor of New York City. It takes a lot of guts to stand up to the mayor of one of the world’s most famous cities. However, as fans of the show are well aware, Frank Reagan is a man with a lot of guts. And, he has seen a few mayors come and go during his time with the NYPD.
Based on a new clip from the first episode of the show’s 12th season, Frank will be clashing with the mayor yet again. Of course, Tom Selleck plays the beloved character. Playing Mayor Peter Chase is Dylan Walsh. Apparently, the two leaders will be clashing after a high-profile shooting takes place. Before this scene, Frank apparently publically said that the NYPD’s “hands have been tied.”
Unsurprisingly, Mayor Chase is not happy with this comment. In this clip from the upcoming “Blue Bloods” episode, the two men are arguing behind closed doors. The clip starts with the mayor exclaiming, “Hands tied behind your back! What the h***?”
Of course, Frank Reagan isn’t about to back down. And, he goes on to defend his public comments. “What the h***?,” he responds. “You took away anticrime. You cut my numbers in the field and in the budget.”
The mayor isn’t ready to back down either. “I had no choice with the city council,” Mayor Chase responds. “I had to. You don’t go to war with the army you want. You go with the army you have.”
Unsurprisingly, Frank has a simple – yet effective – response to that comment. “And we do – every day,” Frank says.
Frank Reagan Goes Toe-to-Toe With NYC Mayor Over the Safety of Citizens
The mayor continues to defend his position and the police commissioner tries to make him understand why what the NYPD needs is so important. Frank does so with his usual calm and commanding demeanor. “Mister mayor, there is a reason crime is rising. And pretending it isn’t won’t make it go away,” Frank says in the “Blue Bloods” clip.
Mayor Chase then tries to put the police commissioner in his place. Of course, Frank has a response for that as well. “What happened to you, Pete?” Frank asks. “You were the law and order mayor. You were the guy I used to have to hold back.”
The mayor then tells Frank that New York City is a “city on its knees.” “My hands are tied just the same as yours,” he adds.
Again, Frank won’t back down from doing what he thinks is right. “Mister mayor, call out what’s happening. You and me – together,” he says.
“I need people to feel safe in this city,” Chase says. “No. You need people to be safe in this city,” Frank responds as the sneak peek clip ends.
You can watch Commissioner Reagan and Mayor Chase face off when the first episode of the 12th season of “Blue Bloods” premieres tonight (Friday, Oct. 1). The episode will air at 10 p.m. (ET) on CBS.
