‘Blue Bloods’: How Did Baez Actor Marisa Ramirez Get Role on Show?

by Joe Rutland

Blue Bloods fans tune in and see Marisa Ramirez hold her own with Donnie Wahlberg in her Maria Baez role. How did she get it?

Outsiders, we’ll let Ramirez answer this in an interview from TV Fanatic.

“They called my agent and offered an episode to me and it was right before pilot season was about to get crazy,” she said. “So, I didn’t know the whole history behind all of Danny’s partners (speaking of Danny Reagan, played by Wahlberg).

“When I read the script, I didn’t think that it would even be recurring,” Ramirez said. “I just thought they needed a partner to solve the crime for an episode.

“I came into New York and shot that episode and just had the best time,” the Blue Bloods star said. “I got along with everyone really well and they asked me to be in the next one…and then they asked me to be in the next one. So, I was like, ‘Wow! What’s happening right now?’

“I had no clue that this could possibly continue into more,” Ramirez said. “It was just so surprising. I’m so honored that they kept asking me to stay. So, I’m here.”

Before she hit it big on the CBS police drama, Ramirez had a life as a model.

Tune into Blue Bloods on Fridays at 10 p.m. Eastern, 9 p.m. Central, on CBS.

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Reveals Whom She Would Like To Work With More on Show

It’s obvious that Ramirez enjoys working on Blue Bloods and her scenes with Wahlberg are worth waiting for in the show.

What other stars of the CBS police drama would she like to work with more?

Ramirez talked about this with Pop Culture in a recent interview.

She said that she would love to work with Abigail Hawk, who plays Abigail Baker, part of NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan’s “dream team.”

“You know she’s just- we sat with each other at the wedding, and we had such a good time together,” Ramirez said. “And there was that female energy that we just kind of were craving more of together. But it would be really nice to kind of be able to spend the day with her at work.”

Hawk’s on-screen time surrounds when Frank, played by Tom Selleck, appears on the show.

There’s another actor whom she’d love to have more screen time with and that’s Steve Schirripa, who plays Anthony Abetemarco and works with Erin Reagan, played by Bridget Moynahan.

“I love being around Steve,” Ramirez said. “His presence is just amazing. He’s just such a warm, lighthearted, just a genuine guy. And I think I have some scenes coming up with him next week. So that’s something to look forward to.”
