On Blue Bloods, Maria Baez actress Marisa Ramirez has become a fan favorite. In fact, some fans really want to see Baez and Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) start up a relationship, they like her so much.

But Danny has run through a lot of different partners over the years. And back in the day, when she first joined Blue Bloods, Ramirez was taking nothing for granted about her staying power.

The actress told TV Fanatic in 2013 that she had “no idea” if she’d be invited to remain on the show as a series regular.

“I mean, there is definitely a series option. But I’m not going to know anything for awhile, and I really have no idea,” Ramirez said then. “I would be completely honored if they asked me to stay as a regular. It’s just such an amazing show to be a part of. And the cast and crew are just awesome.”

Blue Bloods Star Said Danny and Baez Are Like Brother and Sister

In the early days of her Blue Bloods role, Ramirez was adamant that her character and Danny had more of a goofy, brother-sister relationship. She said viewers should not expect to see any romantic sparks flying. And she suggested that the characters had seen each other around the precinct for years before becoming partners.

“No flirting,” Ramirez said. “It’s kind of like a brother-sister relationship, for sure… Very respectful, very friendly. But definitely no flirting. They probably have known some of the same people for the past ten years and have seen each other around. And now they’re working together. It’s fun for both of them. But it’s strictly a professional relationship.”

Indeed, while Ramirez and Wahlberg are both professionals, they reportedly have a lot of fun together on the set of Blue Bloods, and enjoy a great platonic bond.

Will They or Won’t They?

Still, over time, and especially after Danny’s wife died, fans began to get restless. Some of them wanted to see a relationship develop between the two partners. They envisioned it happening the same way one had blossomed between Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) and Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray).

So earlier this year, Ramirez and Wahlberg had to shoot down speculation about their characters getting romantically involved in an interview. Appearing together on CBS’s The Talk, the duo said a relationship between the two partners would complicate the series and put a damper on all the fun they’ve been having.

“See, we have a feeling on this,” Wahlberg explained. “Will Estes plays my younger brother on the show, and Vanessa Ray plays his now wife, and they started off as partners, and the minute they got together and got married, they don’t have scenes anymore.”

“I don’t want to be here if I don’t have scenes with him,” Ramirez chimed in.

“We do laugh a lot, and there are times when we push it a little too far with our laughter outbreaks, but it makes the day so much fun,” Wahlberg added.

Lo these many years later, Ramirez has really settled in to Blue Bloods. Moreover, as a series regular, the actress has a lot to be thankful for – and, apparently, a lot to laugh about, too.
