You may recognize Blue Bloods star Steve Schirripa for his role on the show now, but that wasn’t always the case throughout his career. Many people wanted to constantly view him as a mobster.

Steve Schirripa currently stars in Blue Bloods in the role of Anthony Abetemarco. He is a retired detective with the New York City Police Department. With that said, he still serves as an investigator for the New York County District Attorney’s Office. That means that he is often seen working with Erin Reagan (played by Bridget Moynahan). Schirripa officially became a regular on Blue Bloods back in Season 6.

However, the popular actor is also highly regarded for his work on other projects like The Sopranos, Fear and Loathing Las Vegas, and Must Love Dogs. You may remember that Schirripa played a mobster by the name of Bobby Baccalieri in The Sopranos. Ever since then, he has always been looked at as a mobster. He told Insider back in August that he was worried his big role on The Sopranos could potentially typecast him for the rest of his career.

“When I first started on The Sopranos, I had no career,” Schirripa said. “I was dabbling in acting, it was more like a hobby.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Thankful for His Time on ‘The Sopranos’

There is no question that Schirripa is thankful for his role on The Sopranos. After all, it was that show that literally made his entire career. He said that at the time he didn’t have much of a choice as to whether to take the role or not.

“It was that or nothing,” the actor said.

But later on, Schirripa was able to eventually move away from the mobster gigs. In addition to his current role as a detective on Blue Bloods, he also appeared opposite actress Shailene Woodley as a suburban dad in The Secret Life of the American Teenager.

“I got away from that,” Schirripa said of his mobster role on The Sopranos. “But let’s not kid ourselves. I’m a big guy. I have a raspy voice. I’m not going to plan an English professor. I’ve made a living for 21 years as an actor and I’ve been very lucky.”

Schirripa Recently Partnered with a Condiment Company

When he isn’t playing a mobster, a detective, or a suburban dad, there’s a chance you can see Steve Schirripa repping his new brand — Sir Kensington’s. The Blue Bloods star recently partnered with the company to stand outside and help “protect” their nine-foot billboard in Midtown Manhattan.

As a matter of fact, Schirripa posted a video to his official Instagram page over the summer showing him on the job.

“Spent a great day with @sirkensingtons!! Take a look! #SirKensingtonPartner”
