With less than two weeks until the world celebrates the new year, Blue Bloods star Sami Gayle took to her Instagram to reflect on her favorite moments of 2021.

“As 2021 comes to a close, I like to take stock of my favorite moments,” the Blue Bloods actress writes in the post, which features several pictures of her celebrating the past twelve months. “I know this is a seemingly impossible question to answer but… What is YOUR favorite memory from 2021?”

Gayle portrayed Nicky Reagan-Boyle on Blue Bloods from the show’s premiere in 2010 until last year. During a 2020 interview with Glitter, Gayle spoke discussed her journey on the hit CBS series. “Nicky has navigated so many experiences. Her parent’s divorce; the loss of two family members; new jobs; college; conflicting career ambitions; the pressures of being a part of the Reagan family. Just to name a few.”

Despite the pressures, Gayle said her Blue Bloods character has emerged to be an independent woman with a positive outlook. “[She], despite any backlash, has always chartered her own path.

In regards to what lessons Blue Bloods has taught her either as a person or actress, Gayle added, “Nicky speaks up for what she believes in. Even in the face of dissent. Growing up with her by my side helped me learn to speak my truth. And to advocate for myself in my personal and professional lives.”

‘Blue Bloods’ Star Sami Gayle Reveals What Drew Her to Acting

While continuing her chat with Glitter, Blue Bloods star Sami Gayle opens up about what drew her to acting, to begin with. “When I was 3 or 4, I remember standing with my grandmother at the annual Coconut Grove Art Show, watching Moving Melvin tap on a small piece of wood. I looked at my grandmother and said, ‘I can do that.’ From that moment onwards, I knew I wanted to be a performer on Broadway.”

She was lucky to live out her Broadway dreams. But the Blue Bloods star admitted that she was not interested in solely acting until she was 14-years-old. “Though I had not wanted to do TV or film, a commercial audition landed me the leading role of Erica in Detachment opposite Adrien Brody. Erica had very different experiences from my own.”

When asked what the most challenging storyline she’s done was, Gayle said it was when Nicky was sexually assaulted by her boss. “I was thrilled that Blue Bloods made the effort to help normalize the discussion and prevalence of such experiences. But, it was challenging to bring that story to life in a way that would do justice to all of the individuals who have gone through that.”
