Bobby Flay Parting Ways With Food Network After 27 Years

by Matthew Memrick

Flay Day, Flay Day! Superstar chef Bobby Flay is leaving the Food Network after 27 years.

Longtime contract negotiations between both parties have stalled, and Variety Magazine reported that the network is moving on from the restauranteur and businessman. Flay’s three-year network deal ends after 2021.

Discovery Networks own the Food Network.

Flay’s WME representatives are not talking about the contract negotiations. Variety is reporting those reps still want to negotiate, but Food Network sources say both sides are too far apart over money.

Flay A Mainstay

Once a high school dropout, Flay’s hard work resulted in a French Culinary Institute education.

The 56-year-old cook started with the network in 1994. Flay has bounced around with Food since then, starring in shows like “Beat Bobby Flay,” “Brunch at Bobby’s” and “Grillin’ and Chillin’” series.

The Irish-American also competed in the Food Network’s numerous cooking game shows, including “Chopped” and “Iron Chef America.”

He also worked with his daughter, Sophie, on the series “The Flay List.”

Off the small screen, Flay runs several restaurants in places like Long Island, Atlantic City, and Las Vegas. He’s also penned over a dozen cookbooks and has a Daytime Emmy Award.

According to Yahoo!, Flay has guest-starred in shows like “Today” and “Rachael Ray.” He’s also appeared on scripted shows like “Entourage,” “Younger,” and “Law & Order: SVU.”

Notably, Flay’s TV chef stardom landed a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2015.

Celebrity Net Worth has Flay’s wealth estimated at $60 million.

New Lady For Flay?

The TV cooking star recently gave some hints at a new girlfriend.

The Sun reported that Flay gave some hints about the woman during a “TODAY show” cooking segment. He was on the show promoting a new cookbook.

Flay, who’s been called a ladies man, has gone through three divorces. The last divorce came in 2015 with former “Law & Order” star Stephanie March.

In making veggie chili, Flay revealed his girlfriend was a vegetarian, and he was trying new recipes. The slip led to a few questions that caught Flay a little off-guard.

Despite his attempt to change the subject, the show hosts jumped on their phones and tracked her down, making for a nervous scene for the chef.

One told Flay she was “very attractive,” while another said Flay was “dating up” and that he “was a lucky man.”

Flay politely tried to move on from the conversation but added that his girlfriend was not in the background for the segment.

On another segment last week, “TODAY Show” hosts Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush teased him some more. They said he could come to cook on their show, adding, “We heard this season of [Beat Bobby Flay] is different because you have a new girlfriend.”

Ooof. Laughs soon filled the room. Those hosts were really trying to learn of the women’s identity.

“Wow, that is unbelievable,” Flay shot back at the hosts.
