Captain Mark Howard, ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ Star, Dies at 65

Captain Mark Howard, is known for his role on the first season of Bravo’s “Below Deck Mediterranean,” has reportedly passed away in Florida at the age of 65. 

According to TMZ, Mark Howard reportedly died in Florida. A family friend told the media outlet that the “Below Deck Mediterranean” star’s death was sudden and occurred while he was at home. Tiffany Copeland, Howard’s co-star, also tweeted the unfortunate news about the former captain’s passing. She wrote, “RIP Captain Mark Howard. You were a joy to be around.”

Jones also stated that she did not have any details about Mark Howard’s passing at this time. The only information she currently has is that he passed away on Thursday (October 28th). 

Mark Howard appeared on “Below Deck Mediterranean” throughout the show’s first season. He was captain of the Ionian Princess. According to his bio on the Bravo website, Howard was a yacht captain for nearly 30 years. He also had international experience. Ranging from sailing the South Pacific to the Mediterranean and Caribbean on both private and charter boats. 

Along with his boating experience, Mark Howard had his pilot license and enjoyed flying helicopters as a hobby. His bio also states, “While he is always approachable and supportive of his crew, Mark demands professionalism and finds it important to be hands-on in all aspects of the yacht’s operation.”

In regards to his own advice for “aspiring yachts,” Mark Howard stated that yachts should be honest, work hard, and pay attention to senior crew members. All this while also never forgetting the “golden rule” of yachting, which is, “The guest is always right.”

‘Below Deck Mediterranean’ Fans React to the Sudden Passing of Howard

Following Jones’ tweet, “Below Deck Mediterranean” fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts about Mark Howard’s passing. “I am so saddened to hear of Captain Mark Howard’s passing. He was very kind,” one fan tweeted. 

Other fans praised Howard and stated he was great on the show’s first season. “He was soooo sweet!!! What happened? RIP Capt. And may God bless and be with your family.”

Another fan went on to add, “I was hoping he would come back and do Belos Deck Med! I’m so sad!”

‘Below Deck’ Star Captain Lee Rosbach Previously Spoke About Mark Howard’s Leadership Skills 

In May 2016, “Below Deck” star Lee Rosbach shared his thoughts about Captain Howard’s leadership skills on Twitter. He wrote at the time, “Capt May is an outstanding mariner [without] a doubt. No one knows how they might react until they are in that [situation].”

While also tweeting about Mark Howard’s deckhand, Danny Zureikat, Captain Lee wrote, “Not my circus, not my monkeys. Every Capt. Has his own way of handling things. I would never 2nd guess Capt Mark.”
