Sometimes a certain project comes along that ends up being the career-making moment for an actor or actress. And, sometimes while the project is the start of a major career, it can be hard for the star to separate themselves from the role that originally made them a household name. Recently, longtime actress Nia Vardalos spoke out about this during the introductions portion of a recent taping of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.
“That makes me happy,” the actress says when the game show host, Pat Sajak, mentions that Vardalos is often remembered for her 2002 film, My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Now, the Celebrity Wheel episode featuring Nia Vardalos going head to head with fellow stars Jodie Sweetin and John Michael Higgins won’t be airing until Sunday night.
However, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune was happy to share this moment in a sneak peek posted to Twitter Wednesday afternoon.
“What’s just as good as a BIG fat Greek wedding?” asks the Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Twitter page on December 1.
The discussion between the Celebrity Wheel host and the actress centered around the role for which Nia Vardalos became so well known.
But first, the message posted with the game show’s mid-week tweet gave a shout-out to the actress’s dedication to taking home some winnings for her charity of choice.
Nia Vardalos’s Career Making Role While Appearing on ‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’
“Actress, screenwriter, director,” Celebrity Wheel of Fortune Host Pat Sajak says while introducing Nia Vardalos in the game shows Twitter sneak peek.
“And yet, you’re always going to be My Big Fat Greek Wedding,” the popular game show host continues.
“What an amazing story that was,” Pat Sajak says to Nia Vardalos who not only starred in the film but also played a major part in the movie’s writing and development.
“It was never intended to be a big hit,” the host adds.
“No, No,” responds Vardalos.
“We were just going to be happy if you saw it!” the actress quips. “It was like, ‘are you kidding me?'”
The actress went on to say that she knows fans remember her most from the role of the unexpected, and not-so-typical bride in the runaway hit film.
“I walk into a gas station and while you know you say “I know you from that” for me it’s always “Big Fat Greek girl!” the actress jokes. “And I’m like, “kay!”
Pat Sajak went on to note that sometimes performers become so associated with a role they sometimes regret it. However, this is certainly not the case with Nia Vardalos it seems.
“And then there are those who embrace it,” the Celebrity Wheel of Fortune host adds. “I’m guessing you’re the embracer.”
“Oh, I have my arms wrapped around it!” Vardalos exclaims.
“I just love it,” the actress adds. “I love that everyone sees their family in my family.”
