Although they have been one of the main couples of Chicago Fire for quite a while now, it seems as though not all of the hit series’ fans are actually the relationship between Taylor Kinney’s Kelly Severide and Miranda Rae Mayo’s Stella Kidd seriously. They even claim there’s just no chemistry.

According to Looper, a Redditor by the screenname u/Ta-veren, share their thoughts about the two Chicago Fire characters and their romance. “Unpopular opinion: Severide and Kidd have no chemistry,” the Reddit user declared. They also explained the reason behind their opinion was due to the fact that it seemed like the “easiest pairing” that the show’s production team could come up with.

Unfortunately for the Chicago Fire production team, this doesn’t seem to be a very unpopular opinion. Other Reddit users also agreed that the couple isn’t actually convincing to them as well. “From an acting standpoint, she seems to be selling it more than him, but they do not click at all.”

But while there is an agreement about unconvincing aspects of the Chicago Firecouple, other Reddie users saw the reasoning behind the relationship on the series.

“I completely agree, but it seems like that’s the relationship they want to push for,” one Reddit user stated. Another user goes on to comment that they struggle to buy Kinney’s character are being a committed partner. “Last few seasons, he’s just been moping around. Pulling a half-smile at best. And not really talking to people. He’s become a weird character.”

Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo Talk About The Relationship Between Their ‘Chicago Fire’ Characters

During an October 2019 interview with TellTaleTV, Taylor Kinney and Miranda Rae Mayo opened up about the relationship between their Chicago Fire characters. “I feel like this is Nic for the both of us,” Mayo explained. She also said that she feels like Kinney’s character at some point would have “blow it all up” just to do it.

“Because his nervous system doesn’t know how to handle a long period of just like, calm, stillness, peace, routine,” the Chicago Fire co-star shared. “There’s something in him that craves that adrenaline of not knowing.”

Mayo also said that she thinks her Chicago Fire character Stella is enjoying the relationship between her and Severide. “We talked about how Otis passed away. And I think one of the things that is helping her cop, and him, is having each other. Really leaning into the love that they have.”

The couple is kind of in for a major shakeup, unfortunately. Mayo recently announced she is officially leaving Chicago Fire. During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Mayo stated, “I’m not ready [to say goodbye to Stella].”
