Season 10 of “Chicago Fire” has seen a lot of transformation and character development already in its first half. Now, following the conclusion of the show’s midseason finale, one “Chicago Fire” showrunner has weighed in on one major character’s return.

The December 8th conclusion of “Chicago Fire’s” midseason finale saw the fan-favorite character, Stella Kidd, return to the Windy City. Her surprise appearance came during the episode’s final moments. Showrunners promised weeks ago that Stella would make her return to Chicago before the end of this calendar year. However, many were disappointed to only see her face in the last seconds of the finale.

In all, Stella’s return left a dramatic cliffhanger prior to the show’s January return. But now, showrunner Derek Haas explored the character’s situation and whether it marks her final departure from “Chicago Fire.”

In speaking with One Chicago Center, Haas had some good news for “Chicago Fire” fans regarding the Stella Kidd actress’s (Miranda Rae Mayo’s) status.

Haas revealed, following the midseason finale, that Kidd is “back for good” at Firehouse 51. The showrunner did say, however, that she “has a lot of explaining to do.”

But, as we might expect, “it’s not just explaining to Boden why she didn’t immediately come back when she heard that Casey was leaving.”

Haas said she’ll also have to explain “why she went dark on Kelly when he was obviously trying to reach out to her and had her best interest in mind.”

Overall, Kidd’s unanswered questions promise a host of interesting scenes and conversations for “Chicago Fire’s” January return. However, it’s not the only drama fans can expect to see.

‘Stellaride’ Faces Fallout in Upcoming ‘Chicago Fire’ Episode

For now, we can finally relax regarding the status of actress Miranda Rae Mayo and her role on “Chicago Fire.” However, it by no means signifies that all will be well when the show returns next month.

Surely, Haas’s discussion reveals a lot of the root inspiration for the next couple of “Chicago Fire” episodes. However, previews for the January return promise potential relationship fallout on the part of Stella Kidd and Kelly Severide.

As we’ve seen on “Chicago Fire,” Severide had grown increasingly frustrated with Stella as she continued to ignore him. Although, with her unexpected return, Severide has a boatload of questions for the character. Now, previews show the Squad 3 Lieutenant asking whether his partner had been with someone else while she was away. Check it out.

On top of Stella’s admission that she doesn’t feel the need to “lock [her] future down just yet,” she also remains silent when Severide asks whether or not she met someone else while away.

While the pause following our beloved lieutenant’s question could simply be a deliberate attempt by showrunners to create suspense, it might also spell trouble for “Chicago Fire’s” leading couple. To see how things spin out, tune into NBC on Wednesday, January 5th at 9 p.m. ET.
