Chicago Med fans are feeling some type of way after an emotional Season 6 finale. Following the departure of multiple characters at the end of Season 6, viewers could use something to look forward to in Season 7.
The NBC series is inspired by personal drama alongside cutting-edge medicine in a high-intensity environment. Chicago Med comes from Emmy award-winning executive Dick Wolf. The narrative follows healthcare workers at the city’s newest trauma center as they navigate challenging medical and ethical dilemmas.

Season 6 Departures
Chicago Med said goodbye to several cast members at the end of Season 6. Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) gets fired from his job after being falsely accused of interfering in a drug trial at the hospital. Meanwhile, Ethan Choi USNR get’s shot when he tries to step in to help a distressed patient.
Additionally, Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) gets let go after she is caught stealing drugs for her mom. And finally, April Sexton (Yaya DaCosta) decides to leave the center to pursue her nursing education.
After all that, it’s shocking to see fans’ happy reaction towards the return of Brennan Brown’s Dr. Sam Abrams.
Chicago Med’s Most Loved Character is Back
Dr. Samuel “Sam” Abrams is the Head of Neurosurgery at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center.
His no-nonsense personality and sarcastic jokes give him a down-to-earth vibe which fans are obviously loving. He often makes his voice heard. Especially if it means criticizing others for their brash decisions.
Since Dr. Abrams is a specialist, he doesn’t appear in every episode. Before his return to the show in Season 7, we last saw Abrams in the aftermath of a serious plan crash at Chicago’s O’Hare airport that left dozens injured.
Fans React to Dr. Sam Abrams Return
Chicago Med devotees took to Twitter to express their excitement at Dr. Sam Abrams (Brennan Brown) return.
The social media platform kicked off the conversation with @NBCOneChicago leaning into the character’s dry wit humor saying, “Dr. Abrams with the comic relief.”
Fans were quick to respond. @kyngkap41 responded reacting to Abrams on-screen arrival saying, “Love his sarcasm! In this instance, he’s the right one to deal with Dr. Archer.”
Other’s chimed in with their opinions on Abrams’ return.
@tvphagas wrote, “I really missed him.” While @BabyRex93 stated, “Why isn’t he a regular? I love him!”
Another user wasn’t shy in tweeting their admiration for the character. “Loooooooove Dr. Abrams. More Dr. Abrams next season pleeeeeaaassseee.”
