Well, “Chicago Med” fans, who knew the Season 7 premiere would have us in our feelings? If only they had saved it for the finale, fans would be lucky enough to get another whole season with Torrey DeVitto’s Dr. Natalie Manning. In a heartwarming scene, the show said one final goodbye to one of its original cast members.

We found out in the spring that the “Chicago Med” star wouldn’t be returning for Season 7. She posted to Instagram back in May, breaking the news to all of her devoted fans.

“It has been such an honor and pure joy to bring Dr. Natalie Manning to life for all of you on ‘Chicago Med’ for the past 6 seasons. But it is now time for her and me to bow out and say goodbye. Thank you to all you loyal watchers who adored her as much as I did. I can’t wait to share what’s to come with all of you. New adventures await! With love and gratitude, Torrey,” the Dr. Natalie Manning actor wrote in the caption.

Fortunately, fans got the chance to see Manning one last time. It made for quite the emotional roller coaster of a start to the new season. Within the first few minutes, the beloved character said goodbye to Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) for the last time. The scene was unexpected. Based on the tweet from the Wolf Entertainment official Twitter account, it’s clear that the show didn’t originally intend to include it.

And what a nice send-off it was. But opening the episode with a character who fans thought was gone is a bold move. It threw some longtime viewers for a loop.

‘Chicago Med’ Fans React to the Emotional Moment During Season Premiere

It’s not often that you need tissues mere minutes into a show’s new season. “Chicago Med” really went all out with their tribute to the six seasons and 120 episodes Torrey DeVitto contributed to the show.

“STFU NATALIE AND WILL SAYING GOODBYE WAS ACTUALLY HEARTBREAKING EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SHORT BUT OMG YOU CAN TELL THAT IT WAS TORREY AND NICK BEING SAD FOREVER IN MY HEART,” one fan screamed on Twitter.

“I’m already missing Dr. Natalie Manning. this show definitely won’t be the same without her and Torrey…they were the heart of the show and one reason I started watching. love you Torrey DeVitto you will be missed in Chicago Med for sure,” another wrote.

Even though Dr. Manning is gone, “Chicago Med” fans can still look forward to the new additions to the Season 7 cast. Kristin Hager joined the show as Dr. Stevie Hammer. And “Chicago Fire” veteran Guy Lockard jumped on as Dr. Dylan Scott.
