When watching a procedural drama like “Chicago PD,” it isn’t rare for fans to meet new guest stars who only appear in the show for an episode or two. Often, these guest stars leave fans asking saying something like, “That actor looks so familiar to me. Where have I seen this person before?”

This was the case in 2018 with the 13th episode of the fifth season of “Chicago PD,” according to Looper. The episode was titled “Chasing Monsters” and focused on a gang from El Salvador that was taking power in Chicago. So, Detective Marcella Gomez is brought in to help with the case. She doesn’t prove to be all that trustworthy to the Intelligence Unit.

Playing Gomez in this episode was actress Sofía Lama. She is most famous for her work in Spanish-language television shows in both Mexico and the United States. Some of her Spanish-language works include the Telemundo shows “Dueños del Paraíso” and “Eva La Trailera.”

Lama’s appearance in “Chicago PD” left fans questioning where they had seen her before. This shouldn’t be too much of a surprise. Lama has appeared in other popular television shows during her career. These included “Designated Survivor,” “Selena’s Secret,” and also “Queen of the South.”

‘Chicago PD’ Guest Star Sofía Lama Took On a Challenging Role During 2018

In the “Designated Survivor” series “Chicago PD” guest star Sofía Lama played the character of Gloria Menez. Her appearance in this political drama came in 2017. This character faced the loss of her husband. He was killed on the border between Mexico and the United States. This situation catches the attention of the top politicians of the neighboring countries and involves the relations between the two.

One of Lama’s most famous performances came in 2018 in the television series “Selena’s Secret.” In this drama, she played reporter María Celeste Arrarás. This journalist was a real person who wrote a book about the life of Tejano pop star Selena Quintanilla.

Selena was killed in 1995 by Yolanda Saldivar, who was the president of the singer’s fan club. “Selena’s Secret” looked at the famous story from three points of view. These points of view were those of Arrarás, Saldivar, and, of course, Selena.

Lama enjoyed the challenge of playing a well-known public figure. “It was a lot of fun because when we see her on TV she is this serious journalist, and when I met her she is really funny and charming. I liked being able to portray that on screen. I had to portray the María Celeste that we see in the newscast, and also had to show the charming, relaxed and joyful María Celeste that she is in her personal life,” the actress said during an interview PEOPLE.

It was during 2019 that “Chicago PD” guest star Sofía Lama became part of the cast of “Queen of the South.” In this series, she played Emilia. This character was a girlfriend of Javier Jimenez with a previous romantic relationship with Javier’s cousin, Boaz.
