‘Chicago PD’ Star LaRoyce Hawkins Emotionally Breaks Down Why Role is a ‘Dream Come True’

by Jacklyn Krol

Chicago PD actor LaRoyce Hawkins knows just how special his character is on the hit NBC series.

In a new interview with Shadow and Act, the Kevin Atwater actor spoke about how lucky he is to work on the show in his backyard.

“It’s a dream come true, to be honest with you, especially as a storyteller. You don’t expect to be able to watch your dreams manifest in your backyard the way it has for me.”

One of the greatest parts of his job is paying homage to his home state of Illinois.

“Being from Harvey, Illinois and really having authentic references to the city of Chicago, having authentic references to the character that I play and the characters that my character plays against.”

He believes that over time, the relationship between his character and him has grown stronger. He’s related to him in more ways than one.

“There’s definitely a parallel there that I never knew would grow into something this powerful. From the beginning of when the show started to now,” he continued. “I know I’ve grown, but so has everybody else, especially the writing staff for us to be able to make the stories, whether they’re from the headlines or from our hoods or, what happened and be able to just tell the truth, commit to the truth week in and week. To us, that’s our favorite part.”

‘Chicago PD’ Cast Jumps

The cast of the NBC crime drama has also starred in other NBC and major network dramas.

Patrick John Flueger who plays Officer Adam Ruzek guest-starred on Dick Wolf’s Law & Order: SVU. He appeared in the Season 5 episode entitled “Families”. Flueger portrayed the role of the boyfriend of a murdered girl. He was actually a suspect.

However, the big shocker came when it was revealed that he was not the father of his girlfriend’s baby that she was pregnant with. Then Aidan’s father was found killed. He previously didn’t approve of their love so the team assumed that he did it. Finally, it was revealed that he was just a victim himself without his father or girlfriend.

Secondly, after Chicago PD, Sofia Bush just landed a new role that is set to premiere in January.

She will be starring in the CBS medical series Good Sam. The show will follow Dr. Samantha Griffith as she joins the Lakeshore Sentinel Hospital’s staff as the top surgeon. The twist? Her father is the head of the hospital who recently fell into a coma.

“But complications have set in: Having recovered, the elder doc wants to resume his duties. Sam can only relent, right? The result is a clash of family wills between old guard and new methods in a life-and-death business.”
