One one of the more interesting relationships in the One Chicago universe is Kim Burgess and Adam Ruzek on Chicago PD. The relationship has been an on-again, off-again kind of deal for years now, but the duo undoubtedly cares immensely for one another.
Patrick John Flueger, who plays Adam on Chicago PD, told Cinema Blend, “I think Burgess’ strength is in her heart, you know. She feels things very deeply. And that’s where she comes from, whereas Ruzek’s strength is in his conviction. And those things don’t necessarily always match up. I think ’til the day they die, if they end up together, if they have a million children together, it is going to be constantly… at the end of the day, they’ll end up you know, butt-butt-butt[ing heads] and then, you know, come together at the end of the day. That’s how I see it.”
The back-and-forth is just part of the deal. The couple thinks with two different parts of their brains, Burgess with her heart and Adam with his mind. It works, ultimately for the couple, but the butting of heads will never cease because of it.
Flueger added, “I feel like they have an incredibly adult relationship. I think that adult relationships are not what you see in movies. It’s not what you see reading storybooks. It’s a little more complicated than that. You got to give and then you got to take and you got to push and you got to pull. And I kind of love that they’re telling that storyline for us. But you know, it’s not going to get any less complicated. They have very complicated lives, because of their jobs. And because they work together in those very complicated and dangerous jobs.”
Their love on the program is more realistic than what most folks typically see on the big screen. It’s not a fairytale where they live happily ever after and everything is OK. This is partly the reason behind why so many fans adore the couple on the hit NBC program. It looks genuine on the small screen. Their relationship is not a clean fit on the Chicago PD, as the couple has gotten together and broken up. As he said, working with another only adds another layer of issues between the two.
Will Burgess and Adam work in the long run? That’s what folks are dying to know who love Chicago PD. The confluence of events and where Burgess’ head has been at as of late, makes one wonder if things will ultimately work out in the end. As he said, though, they are going to keep at it on the show as the two cannot quit each other even with how different the two really are.
