Ah, Gil and Sara, where to begin with Gil and Sara. How about, they’re a better love story than Romeo and Juliet, mostly because no one dies. Well, some people die. Okay, bad example.
But that’s beside the point; the point is, Gil and Sara are one of the greatest TV romances ever. And “CSI” knows exactly what they have. The show’s official Twitter recently posted a sweet video montage of GSR (Gil and Sara Romance, for the uninitiated) moments from the new series. They captioned the video “#GSR forever.”
The video features clips of Gil and Sara working together, hyper-focused on the evidence and trying find anything to clear Hodges. It starts off with Maxine telling Gil, “Okay, I gotta tell you, I love your wife,” and Gil replying, “Me too.” Sara gives him a secretly pleased little look, and the whole thing is just so cute.
There’s the moment were Gil reveals that he’s having issues being on land, and Sara says, “If you need to hold onto something, hold onto me.” The video also includes the moment where Gil gives Sara her wedding ring back after finding it in a bucket of sludge. Gil calls Sara “darlin'”, tells her she’d look good in a jumpsuit, and then at the end, the now-iconic kiss on the roller coaster.
The two lean in at the top of the coaster, sharing a sweet kiss that just shows how much they love each other. It’s nice to see a marriage portrayed on screen that isn’t just fuel for the angst of the show; they don’t fight, nobody’s unfaithful, there’s no mildly abusive jokes. Truly, Sara and Gil are couple goals, despite their rocky road to a happy marriage.
‘CSI’: Sara and Grissom’s Long History
While the two characters have canonically been married since 2015, things weren’t always sunshine and rainbows and living on a boat together.
The two always had chemistry, since Gil brought Sara into the CSI crime lab from San Francisco. They apparently met at one of his lectures, and he later offered her a job after she assisted on a case. They have little moments of flirting through seasons 2, 3, and 4.
Around season 5, their relationship takes a turn, when Sara reveals details from her childhood. She tells Gil that her mother killed her abusive father when she was a child, and that she grew up with everyone looking at her as “that girl whose mother stabbed her father.” As a result, she tells Gil she’s afraid she inherited her parents’ violent behavior. Gil is constantly in her corner throughout this, telling her he doesn’t believe there’s a “murder gene.”
The two get engaged in season 8, but then Sara leaves the crime lab. She eventually comes back in season 9, only to break up with Gil and run away to Costa Rica. After he finds her, they get married, but then in season 13 they’ve split up again. In the movie “Immortality,” Lady Heather tests Gil’s feelings for Sara, and he reveals that he truly loves Sara. That’s how the two end up on the boat, sailing off into the sunset.
