The reboot of the popular CSI franchise hit airwaves this fall, and fans are just loving it. This well-received reboot titled CSI: Vegas picks up where the CSI investigators would be in real-time.
The new series offers an interesting mix of brand new CSI characters investigating some impressive cases; as well as the return of some of our favorite original characters. Favorite CSI characters that fans first met when the original CSI: Crime Scene Investigation premiered over twenty years ago.
Now, longtime CSI viewers are starting to wonder if they may see another familiar face, Marg Helgenberger, on CSI: Vegas.
Marg Helgenberger portrayed one of the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation main characters, Catherine Willows, for a number of years. She is also one of the original characters who haven’t made an appearance on the brand-new CSI: Vegas reboot.
CBS Announces Exciting ‘CSI’ Reboot, ‘CSI: Vegas’
Last spring, the original CSI network, CBS, announced that a reboot of the popular series was underway.
With this announcement, fans learned that CSI alums William Peterson and Jorja Fox would return to the series reprising their roles as Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle, respectively.
Since then, CSI: Vegas has been a hit with fans as it premiered on October 6 to some impressive ratings.
Fans have certainly enjoyed seeing a few familiar faces as they also get used to the new faces working in the CSI crime labs.
However, some people have noted that other original players – such as Helgenberger – should be making appearances on Vegas as well.
Marg Helgenberger’s Catherine Willows was a central character in the original series. The character served as the night shift supervisor for the crime labs.
Helgenberger Was a Series Favorite
Willows was a favorite on the series, her character was one of the ones with an incredibly involved back-story. Marg Helgenberger’s Catherine Willows was so core to the series, in fact, that some believe that CSI: Vegas will never truly succeed as a true revival without at least an appearance from Helgenberger.
In total, Marg Helgenberger’s Catherine Willow spent more time on CSI than William Peterson’s Gil Grissom did. Helgenberger was a regular on the CBS procedural for twelve seasons while Peterson was featured on the series through season nine. So, some say, this makes Helgenberger just as important to the reboot as Grissom is.
Another argument making Helgenberger’s return to CSI a necessary move is the fact that CSI: Vegas has a long-running sub-plot that involves a murder attempt on another member of the original series, Jim Brass.
Many believe it would make sense for Catherine Willows to return to CSI since she worked so closely with Brass in the original series for so many seasons.
