Earlier this year, actress Lucy Liu went public about a feud she had with Bill Murray while they were filming the early 2000s film version of “Charlie’s Angels.”
Now several months later, one of their costars has chimed in on what happened between Liu and Murray while making the film. That costar isn’t Cameron Diaz. The costar who is now speaking out is Drew Barrymore.
Barrymore talked about the incident in her series, “The Drew Barrymore Show” on Tuesday, Oct. 5, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
On Tuesday, the 46-year-old actress said that at one point she planned to share a video with the public that would show her support for Liu. However, Liu told Barrymore that releasing the video wasn’t necessary.
“Lucy is out there right now talking about her instance with Bill Murray and I did this whole video and sent it to her to back her up,” Barrymore recalled. She also said that Liu’s response to the video was, “‘I don’t need it.'”
According to what Lucy Liu said in July, Murray frequently insulted her while they were filming a scene from the movie version of the famous 1970s television series. “I won’t get into the specifics, but it kept going on and on. I was, like, ‘Wow, he seems like he’s looking straight at me,'” the now 52-year-old star shared on the “Los Angeles Times’ Asian Enough” podcast.
Liu also said that the language Bill Murray used toward her was “inexcusable and unacceptable.” She also said: “No matter how low on the totem pole you may be or wherever you came from, there’s no need to condescend or to put other people down. And I would not stand down, and nor should I have.”
Drew Barrymore Said Bill Murray ‘Came In In a Bad Mood’ On the Day He Insulted Lucy Liu
“What really happened was Bill was just — you know, comedians can be a little dark sometimes. He just came in in a bad mood,” Barrymore recently shared.
Barrymore also talked about how Liu took a stand when Murray insulted her.
“What you have to know is how much Lucy stood up for herself, and that was the great thing that came out of an unfortunate circumstance. She literally said, ‘I do not accept that kind of behavior from you.’ We all supported her and backed her up, and we moved forward,'” Barrymore shared.
Bill Murray commented on the incident during a 2009 interview with the Times of London. “Look, I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me… When our relationship is professional, and you’re not getting that done, forget it,” Murray reportedly said.
As for how Drew Barrymore feels about Liu, the former child star said she admires her “Charlie’s Angels” costar.
“I respected her then, I respect her now,” Barrymore also said.
