Dwayne Johnson Shares More Details about His Fitness Routines & Diet

During a 2013 interview with Sun-Sentinel, Dwayne Johnson opens up about his fitness routines. “I do steady-state cardio for about 35-to-40 minutes at home my gym. Or I might hit the road out in the neighborhood. Then I’ll go train.”

When asked why does he want to stay in shape (besides for his career), Dwayne Johnson explained that working out anchors his day. “And for me, training is my meditation, my yoga, hiking, biking all rolled into one.”

Dwayne Johnson also noted that he wants up around 4 o’clock so he can do his cardio on an empty stomach. “Stretch, have a big breakfast, and then I’ll go train. I’m generally always shooting or preparing to shoot for something. So that’s why I like keeping my condition in a certain zone.”

Johnson then opens up about his diet. He noted that he has a great diet and conditioning coach. “We prepare me for these roles, and even when I’m not preparing for a role. It’s a very specific diet.”

Dwayne Johnson then revealed he eats six balanced meals a day. He has carbs with each meal. A balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. For one of his roles, he ate a 10-ounce filet mignon for breakfast. He’d have two whole eggs and two cups of oatmeal. “The rest consisted of fish and chicken throughout the day.”

Dwayne Johnson further explained that his carb sources are all complex carbs. He’ll eat sweet potato, oatmeal, and white rice. “Part of my daily regime is my glucosamine and, of course, a multitude of multivitamins. Branched-chain amino acids, glutamine, of course, protein. I have one protein shake a day, and that is immediately after my training.”

In regards to ever using steroids, Dwayne Johnson admitted he tried it when he was at 18. “We didn’t know what we were doing. Had no idea. Didn’t see any results. They were orals [not injections], and as far as we knew, we were probably taking Tylenol.”
