In the 1980s, Dynasty starring Joan Collins was must-see TV. The ABC drama had a spin-off called The Colbys premiere on this day in 1985.

Actors John James and Emma Samms took their Jeff and Fallon Colby characters over to The Colbys. And let us tell you, Outsiders, that this show had a cast.

Consider Charlton Heston, Barbara Stanwyck, Katharine Ross, Maxwell Caulfield, Tracy Scoggins, Claire Yarlett, and Ricardo Montalban in the show.

Twitter account Retro News Now honored the show on Saturday.

If you watch the opening credits, then you will see elegance, champagne, and stars galore.

Dynasty appeared in 1981 and quickly found a spot in the ABC lineup. It also was the era where hour-long dramas were drawing big ratings. Obviously, some people will think about Dallas in the primetime drama area.

The Colbys ran for two seasons.

Yes, Outsiders, the show was produced by Aaron Spelling. He was in the middle of a solid stretch of success on ABC. Spelling oversaw Charlie’s Angels, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Dynasty.

‘Dynasty’ Star Linda Evans Talks About How Split From John Derek Helped Her Get Role

Besides Collins, Linda Evans also had a starring role on Dynasty.

Evans played Krystle Carrington, who was married to Blake Carrington, played by John Forsythe.

In August 2021, Evans, now, opened up with People magazine to chat about her life since Dynasty.

The actress said that suffering through a divorce in real life would not have landed her role as the second wife of Blake Carrington on Dynasty.

Evans married John Derek in 1968, one year before The Big Valley ended. Derek didn’t want her to work. They divorced five years later.

Derek had an affair with actress Bo Derek who, in 1979, was the perfect woman in 10.

Evans Finds TV Drama Brings New Life To Her Career As An Actress

Well, Linda Evans didn’t work for a long time. Dynasty changed that tune.

“John and I broke up nine years after we met — he fell in love with Bo,” Evans said. “And then I called my agent and said, ‘I want to work again,’ and he said, ‘You’ve been away for so long. How are we going to pull this off? Everyone’s forgotten about you.'”

Evans said that if she’d stayed married to John Derek, then she never would have done Dynasty.

“I would never have known all the magic that followed that show or that experience,” she said. “Which to me is just like, one of the most beautiful things anyone could even hope to experience in a lifetime.”

Evans was one of the big stars on that show. Her role was important on Dynasty.
