Director legend Baz Luhrmann is sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the new “Elvis” biopic. Watch him talk about the creative process.
Baz Luhrmann has been hard at work directing and editing the new “Elvis” biopic. Starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks, the movie will hit theaters on June 24, 2022. While this is a long time to wait, Luhrmann gives fans an inside look on the creative process.
In his latest Instagram post, the director celebrates Elvis’s birthday in the perfect spot: a screening room inspired by The King. Luhrmann says that the creative team surrounds itself with imagery of Elvis.
“Here in our creative space, we’re surrounded by Elvis. Everywhere we go, images, the sound of his voice. And I just thought maybe you’d like to have a little look at our creative space. So, one of the things that we always do is we theme our environment so it inspires the creativity of all the creatives who are here.”
In the video clip, the director gives fans a tour of their screening room, which is decorated to look like Presley’s 1970’s bedroom at the Hilton Hotel. Blue suede couches and golden curtains point towards a large projection screen.
Surrounded by Elvis
Baz Luhrmann also shows off the pictures and newspaper clippings covering the walls. He says that these pieces inspire the creative process.
“Another thing that’s really important that we like to do is make sure that we have a kind of picture wall and you see it behind me here. And the picture wall is telling a story, particularly the story of Elvis’ life. But it’s done completely in sourced imagery. In the same way we cover all of our walls in newspaper articles or materials that are going to inspire as you walk around the building.”
Fans are excited to see Luhrmann immersed in the life of Elvis Presley. Enthusiastic comments are found all throughout the thread.
“Thank you for the tour Baz, very inspiring to see how you all immerse yourselves in his energy,” one fan writes.
“So considered and inspiring that your produce such a creative space for your team! Amazing creative leadership!” another says.
It looks like this attention to detail is paying off. In November, the director posted an intriguing movie teaser, sending fans into a frenzy.
“Made a little something to let you good people know we are taking care of business on June 24, 2022,” he wrote.
