Smith states that he and Lisa Marie had some “damn good times” at Graceland the memories will always be in his heart. Graceland was built in 1939. According to the website, it was originally owned by the S.E. Toof family. The land had been part of the family for generations and was named after one of the female relatives, Grace. Presley purchased the home for $100,000 in 1957 when he was just 22 years old.
Lisa Marie inherited the home after her famous father unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack in 1977. It was opened to the public as a museum in June 1982. It was eventually listed in the National Register of Historic Places in November 1991. The estate actually became the first site related to rock and roll to be entered into the register.
