As everyone continues to register Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars, actor Jim Carrey has some criticism towards the King Richard star.

During his appearance on CBS Mornings, Jim Carrey stated he was sickened by the standing ovation Will Smith received when he was dubbed the winner of the Best Actor award. This was after the incident with Rock. “Hollywood is just spineless en masse and it really felt like this is a really clear indication that we aren’t the cool club anymore.”

Jim Carrey also declares that Will Smith should have been arrested for what he did to Chris Rock. However, CBS Mornings host Gayle King pointed out that the comedian decided to not press charges. Carrey said that Rock simply didn’t want to deal with the hassle.

However, Carrey revealed what he would have done if he was in Chris Rock’s shoes. “I’d have announced this morning that I was suing Will Smith for $200 million. Because that video is going to be there forever. It’s going to be ubiquitous. That insult is gonna last a very long time.”

Jim Carrey says that if someone wants to yell from the audience and show disapproval or say something on Twitter, that’s fine. “You do not have the right to walk up on stage and smack somebody in the face. ‘Cuz they said words.

Jim Carrey States That Will Smith’s Outburst Casted a ‘Pall’ Over Everyone’s Shining Moment

As he continued to discuss what happened during the 2022 Oscars that led to Chris Rock being slapped, Jim Carrey stated, “I don’t have anything against Will Smith. He’s done great things. But that was not a good moment. It cast a pall over everybody’s shining moment.”

Jim Carrey further stated that people worked really hard to get to the Oscars. “It’s a gauntlet of devotion you have to do. It was such a selfish moment that cast a pall over the whole thing.”

Meanwhile, along with Jim Carrey, others in Hollywood are speaking out in support of Chris Rock. According to Us Weekly, Judd Apatow spoke out by declaring that Will Smith could have killed Chris Rock. “That’s pure out of control rage and violence. He lost his mind,” he explained. Apatow also clarified his comments while on air for SiriusXM’s Deal Obeidallah Show. “Well, you’re somebody that people emulate. So it’s dangerous. You can’t have the Sidney Poitiers of the world behave that way.”

Apatow also explained that he hopes it would be a teachable moment where Will Smith is able to speak to others in an honest way about why slapping someone is not the way to go. Kathy Griffin then spoke about Will Smith’s behavior at the Oscars calling it “bad practice” to walk up and assault a comedian. “Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theaters.”
