Despite the moment being completely shocking and now infamous, Will Smith’s slap at Oscars 2022 reportedly sparks a massive uptick in ticket prices for Chris Rock’s standup comedy shows.

According to the DailyMail, ticket prices for Chris Rock’s Ego Death World Tour went from $46 apiece to now more than $400. The sales notably spiked after the comedian was slapped by Smith while he was presenting an award during the 2022 Oscars. On Tuesday (March 29th), tickets for the first show on Wednesday (March 30th) in Boston sold out. Rock will be performing his standup at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston at the start of his tour.

Chris Rock’s post 2022 Oscar standup tour will feature stops in Toronto, Ontario; Denver, Colorado; Mt. Pleasant, Michigan;  Atlantic City, New Jersey; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Oakland, California. The tour will run from the end of March to mid-November.

Although the crowd remained in shock for most of the show after the slap, Will Smith ended up winning Best Actor for his performance in King Richard.

Richard Williams Speaks Out About Will Smith Slapping Chris Rock During the 2022 Oscars

During an interview with NBC News after the 2022 Oscars, Richard Williams, who Will Smith portrayed in King Richard, shared his thoughts about the incident between Smith and Chris Rock.

“We don’t know all the details about what happened,” Richard Williams stated through his son Chavoita LeSane. “But we don’t condone anyone hitting anyone else unless it’s in self-defense.”

LeSane also stated that his father was as surprised as anyone when Smith unpredictably lashed out at Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars. Rock made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, and her bald head. Pinkett Smith candidly revealed last year that she shaved her head because she was battling autoimmune skin disease, alopecia. Pinkett Smtih previously shared that the disease caused her to lose most of her hair before she decided to shave her head. Rock took a shot at Pinkett Smith’s look by declaring he can’t wait to see her in G.I. Jane 2, which would be a follow-up of Demi Moore’s film. Moore notably shaved her head for the role.

After slapping Chris Rock on the 2022 Oscar stage, Will Smith infamously declared from his seat, “You keep my wife’s name out of your f–ing mouth” twice. Although shocked by the alteration, Rock continued his presentation. The LAPD issued a statement following the 2022 Oscars stating that no charges have been filed for the incident.

However, LeSane declined to offer a comment about Smith’s Oscar acceptance speech. While on stage accepting his award, Smith declared, “I look like the crazy father. Just like they said about Richard Williams. But love will make you do crazy things.”
