When it comes to Hollywood’s leading men, “Fast and Furious” star Vin Diesel ranks right up there with the biggest names in the industry.

While “Fast and Furious” is his biggest claim to fame to date, Vin Diesel has had numerous leading roles in his career. Still, the “Fast and Furious” franchise, which has spawned numerous films stands out as Diesel’s most successful project. While he is the unquestioned star of these films, he didn’t do it alone. He had several co-stars that helped push “Fast and Furious” into one of the most profitable film franchises ever. Actors such as Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham among others deserve much credit for making the franchise a success. You might be surprised, however, to learn of one co-star who Vin Diesel credits the most for “The Fate of Furious.”

Legendary actress Helen Mirren draws the most kudos from Vin Diesel when it comes to the “Fast and Furious” run. Vin Diesel spoke about the first time he ever met Mirren and how she came to be a part of the film franchise. He met the famed actress at a Golden Globes party, where she told him she would like to be a part of the “Fast and Furious.”

“She’s very intimidating, despite her 5’2” frame,” he says via The Hollywood Reporter. You want to make her happy. You definitely don’t want to disappoint her. For a tough New Yorker like myself, I was intimidated and I don’t get intimidated easily. She inspired something in me.”

Vin Diesel also recalls shooting a scene with Mirren in “The Fate of the Furious” film.

“I remember this being one of my favorite days in my journey,” he says. “No one else in the room mattered. Nothing existed but this bond between her and me.”

Vin Diesel and Helen Mirren Form a Close Bond

It might seem like an unlikely duo to some, but Vin Diesel and Hellen Mirren share a special chemistry on and off-screen. It was actually Mirren who requested to be a part of the “Fast and Furious” film. In a 2015 appearance on “Late Night with Seth Myers,” Mirren proclaimed herself a huge fan of the actor.

“I’m a huge fan of Vin Diesel,” she said. “It came from me watching him make a speech once at some ceremony, he was just so smart and so funny and so cool, and I just sort of fell a little bit in love with him right there and then.”

The two star actors left quite an impression on each other and they remain friends. Vin Diesel says Helen Mirren’s appearance in the film is a big reason for the franchise’s success.

it’s something that I’ll take with me for the rest of my life … It’s probably her which is why ‘The Fate of the Furious’ was the fastest movie in history to hit a billion dollars.
