During Entertainment Tonight’s Iconic Leading Men of the ‘90s segment, it was revealed that The Happy Days actress and Dallas alum notably began their relationship through long-distance zoom chats. Duffy then got into his car and drove a day straight to Purl’s home. “I was standing out in the driveway jumping up and down,” Purl recalled. “I’ve made a total fool of myself.”
The Happy Days actress also said it’s remarkable that Duffy didn’t turn around and drove away after witnessing her excitement in the driveway. Duffy goes on to explain, “The other side of it is that I drove all those hours and I was five minutes from her house. And I pulled over because I was in my 23-hour driving clothes. In the middle of a Colorado Springs street, I’m dropping trou outside my car.”
He managed to finally get dressed, rinsed his mouth with mouthwash, and drove to the Happy Days star’s home. They’ve been together ever since.
Patrick Duffy Opens Up About His Relationship With ‘Happy Days’ Actress Linda Purl
During a November 2020 interview with People, Patrick Duffy describes his relationship with Happy Days actress Linda Purl as being an incredibly happy relationship. “I never thought for a minute this would happen again. I never thought I’d feel this way again.”
Duffy was notably married to ballet dancer Carlyn Rosser for nearly 50 years before she passed away from cancer in 2017. Since Rosser’s passing, Duffy has been preoccupied with being a grandpa to his four grandkids. Fortunately, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, he fell in love with the Happy Days actress during quarantine.
While speaking about his connection with the Happy Days star, Duffy said, “I felt quite honestly, that it is keeping with the desires of my wife. The fact that we intended to be happy. So when it’s offered, think about it. Do whatever you do. But don’t let it pass you up if it’s the right thing.”
Prior to her relationship with Duffy, the Happy Days actress was married four times. All four marriages ended in divorce. Purl has one child, Lucius, with Cary. Duffy also told Closer Weekly that he and Purl zoomed every single night for a least two to three hours. “So we explored all our history, our past, our loves. We listened to music together and covered all that ground you normally cover over months of dating.”
The Happy Days actress goes on to add, “Life is full of surprises, both good and bad. Patrick and I weren’t looking for this. We didn’t expect it or see it coming when our paths crossed. Don’t ever give up.”
