Over the years, NCIS has made references and puns to so many things. However, one clever reference was made early on about David McCallum. One of the 1960s roles that made him a star found itself being mentioned by none other than Gibbs.
Fans of NCIS know McCallum as the kind and witty medical examiner on the show. As one of the longest-running cast members, McCallum’s portrayal of Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard is one of the most recognizable figures on the show. It was all the way back in just season 2 of the show.
The team was investigating an awful murder case. One that involved piecing together body parts in the morgue and other unpleasant tasks. It led to one of those classic stakeout moments. While conducting the stakeout, with Gibbs, Agent Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander) asks, “What did Ducky look like when he was younger?”
This one is for all the classic TV heads out there. With just a slight smile and a look in his eye like Mark Harmon himself was laughing on the inside, Gibbs said, “Illya Kuryakin.” Of course, for those that know McCallum’s resume, that is the name of his character from The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The role brought McCallum his first big success. He became very popular with his performance in the show.
While the espionage classic garnered him notoriety in his younger days, in more recent years he has become Ducky as far as NCIS fans are concerned that is. Recently on the show, fans got to see Timothy McGee’s family.
‘NCIS’ Dives Into Agent Timothy McGee and His Family
Agent McGee on NCIS has been on the show since the beginning. As Gibbs left the show this season, many thought he would be the next one up. However, after considering the pros and cons of the promotion, he decided not to pursue it. He saw what it did to Gibbs and frankly, doesn’t want that for himself.
However, fans were introduced to McGee’s mother-in-law, Judy in the latest episode. After a cruise ship fling is found dead on the boat by Judy herself, she is brought in to answer some questions. Also, her daughter and McGee’s wife made an appearance as well. Patricia Richardson, former Home Improvement star, was happy to work on the show as Judy.
“This whole job has been a blast. What a great show to work on. I don’t know if an actor could ask for a better working environment.” That’s high praise for the show, and fans gave high praise for Richardson’s performance. After the show was over, fans were more than happy to share their feelings about the performance. It seems like it was a successful appearance, perhaps she will be in future NCIS episodes this season.
