One of our favorite television Christmas staples, It’s a Wonderful Life is getting a new look this year. Some of our favorite stars are coming together to perform an original table read of the hit film Sunday night.
The upcoming virtual event will stream live on Sunday, December 5. All funds raised from the exciting Hollywood event will go to a great cause, too.
Additionally, the original table-read performance of the 1946 Frank Capra movie is created in memory of the late, great Ed Asner. Proceeds will go to the benefit of The Ed Asner Family Center (TEAFC). This program promotes mental health and enrichment programs for special needs children, as well as their families.
In fact, this one-of-a-kind virtual special is part of the TEAFC’s annual gala.
“My father’s passing has left an indescribable hole in my heart,” Ed Asner’s son, Matt Asner has said about his father.
“For our annual fundraising gala this year, I want to honor my father’s legacy as both a legendary actor and a staunch advocate for people of all abilities,” the iconic actor’s son continues.
“I would like to thank Turner Classic Movies for partnering to support our effort to raise much-needed funds for special needs families,” Matt Asner continues.
‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ Table Read Brings In Some Major Stars
The holiday table read will be hosted by former Dancing With the Stars host Tom Bergeron.
Additionally, this 2021 Christmas Celebration Zoom table read is made possible with the partnership with Turner Classic Movies and MeTV.
A live TikTok question and answer event will follow the star-studded table read. Fans have the opportunity to submit live questions for the table read cast on the TEAFC account.
Ted Lasso star and Saturday Night Live alum Jason Sudeikis and Star Wars star Mark Hamill will be performing in the event. Joining Sudeikis and Hammil in the production are Martin Sheen; Mandy Patinkin; George Wendt; Kathy Bates; and Ed Harris, among others.
Jason Sudeikis will be taking on the role of George Bailey in the It’s a Wonderful Life table reading.
In the original 1946 film, Jimmy Stewart’s George Bailey, wonders if his family would be better off without him. This comes as he faces great challenges as the Great Depression sets in one Christmas Eve.
To show him how much of an impact he has on those around him, an angel named Clarence comes down to earth. During their time together, Clarence uses his magic to show George Bailey what life would be like if he had never been born.
In the process, George gains a renewed appreciation for life, and Clarence gains his angel wings.
