“Jeopardy!” might seem pretty straightforward when watching it from your living room, but the contestants actually have tons of rules to follow. One of those rules is that everyone must bring three different outfits with them to the studio, per Men’s Health.
This may seem like an odd requirement, but it makes sense when you think about the fact that “Jeopardy!” shoots five games straight in a row. If you win the first game of the day and go on to win more, the show wants you to change clothes so that it looks like time passes between games. Hosts have to do the same thing.
Previous contestant Shannon Younger shared this tidbit in an article she wrote for Better. While crammed into a limo with 13 other contestants, Younger noted how “One contestant brought a suitcase, some had clothes shoved in a plastic bag, most people had a garment bag.” She also spilled the beans on specific clothing that was restricted for the show.
“No all-white tops, no olive-colored tops, and avoid clothing with busy patterns. (I’m surprised at how many people on this show ignore that last suggestion),” Younger wrote in her article.
Fans learned quite about wardrobe changes on “Jeopardy!” when recent champion Matt Amodio became a 38-day champion. Although his streak was split between two separate seasons, Amodio clearly indicated that he did not pack enough clothes for the show.
‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Matt Amodio Has Entire Wardrobe Tracked
One “Jeopardy!” fan named Lilly actually keeps track of the wardrobe choices for different contestants during every episode of the game show. And tracking Matt Amodio’s wardrobe changes over 38 games certainly made things interesting for her.
At the end of Matt’s 38-day run, Lilly compiled a graphic that showed every single outfit he wore over the course of his win streak. The result is pretty spectacular, and also an interesting way to see how one contestant can only change an outfit so many times when they keep winning.
“And now, finally, the full collection of outfits from @AmodioMatt’s entire Jeopardy run (I’m ignoring Day 39, obviously) 28 unique outfit combos over 38 days (6 outfits repeated once, and 2 repeated twice) #MattGalaRecap,” Lilly wrote in the post. Check out the incredible compilation below.
During his run on “Jeopardy!”, Amodio did admit that a previous contestant lent him a sweater (turns out, James Weldon lent him THREE sweaters during Season 38). The show’s official Twitter account shared a behind-the-scenes video where host Mayim Bialik asked Amodio, “Did you have to buy a whole new wardrobe to be here?”
“I bought one or two things, but I also inherited some clothing from a previous Jeopardy! contestant,” Amodio said. “So thank you, James Weldon. This sweater right here is courtesy of him.”
“Well sharing is caring,” Bialik replied.
