All of the drama that has surrounded the search for a replacement for Alex Trebek on “Jeopardy!” has not deterred Mayim Bialik from thinking that hosting the show is what she wants to do. In fact, during a recent interview, the 45-year-old actress and neuroscientist said it is her “dream job.”
If you have been keeping up with the “Jeopardy!” drama over the last few months, you will know that it was announced in August that Bialik was chosen as the host of the popular quiz show’s primetime specials. At the same time, it was announced that Mike Richards would take the reins as host of the show’s syndicated episodes.
This, as some of you are probably aware, didn’t last. Controversy surrounding Richards led to him stepping down as the show’s host. He later also gave up his duties as the executive producer of both “Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune.”
So, once again, the quiz show was left without a host. The powers that be then turned to Mayim Bialik for help. She agreed to balance her work on her sitcom, “Call Me Kat,” with episodes of “Jeopardy!” Also taking on hosting duties in the near future is “Jeopardy!” champion Ken Jennings.
Even after all this drama, Bialik still wants to be the full-time host of “Jeopardy!” “There’s no other job I would rather have,” she said, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
‘Jeopardy!’ Host Mayim Bialik Said Her Education, Acting Experience ‘Feels Best Suited By This Job’
Her love of the quiz show doesn’t make her other work less valuable to her. However, it is her role as its host that stands out to Bialik above her other roles. “I love my sitcom work, I do. I love all the other things I do. … love the podcast. But I absolutely have never had a better job. …” she also said.
Mayim Bialik also believes that her acting career and her education as a neuroscientist make her uniquely prepared and qualified to host “Jeopardy!.”
“The use of my brain and my skillset feels best suited by this job on Jeopardy! It is a dream job. I think it’s a dream job for anyone, but especially for someone who is trained first as a performer and then as a science communicator,” the former “The Big Bang Theory” actress also shared.
Bialik and Jennings are scheduled to share hosting duties until the end of 2021. That will mark more than one year since the death of iconic host Alex Trebek at the age of 80 in November 2020.
The former “Blossom” actress also said she hopes things will soon settle down in the world of “Jeopardy!.”
“I go to work, and I do my job. … What I want is stability for the crew and for the staff and, as much as possible, for the viewers,” Mayim Bialik explained.
