“Jeopardy!” fans everywhere are mourning the loss of beloved host Alex Trebek as today, November 8, marks the one the one year anniversary of his passing. The longtime TV host battled with stage 4 pancreatic cancer before his tragic demise. Now, former guests of the show are sharing their love for the late game show host. This includes longtime champion James Holzhauer.

The former “Jeopardy!” winner recently shared a post on Twitter in tribute to Trebek. His post shows the young host, full mustache, in a tuxedo on the cover of a magazine. An ode to a former time, Trebek was in the peak of his career.

“Today marks one year without the legend,” Holzhauer captioned his post.

Holzhauer is known for his 32 game run on the show. He’s the third highest game winner, with a streak that earned him some serious credit along with fame and fortune. He won a total of almost $2.5 million, just behind Ken Jennings. In third is the most recent champ Matt Amodio.

Holzhauer was known for his cheery disposition as well as his good humor during the time on the show. He also appeared on “Jeopardy! Tornament of Champions” in November 2019, a year before Trebek passed away.

Others Remember “Jeopardy!” Host Alex Trebek

Holzhauer wasn’t the only “Jeopardy!” contestant to make a tribute to Alex Trebek. Several other celebrities took time to remember the star’s contributions to the show throughout decades.

These include current host Mayim Bialik as well as his widow, Jean.

“My beloved husband passed away one year ago,” she wrote in a social media post. “One of his final messages was that of the importance of having compassion for each other. In honor of Alex’s beautiful and powerful life, please take a moment to watch this short video.”

Prior to his death, Trebek spoke lovingly about his relationship with his wife. The two were a team – with his career not influencing their bond in marriage. Before his death, he spoke about their marriage in an interview.

“Sometimes you look at something, you look at someone, and you know. I mean, you’ve heard stories of people who meet and decide within half an hour. I knew this was going to be the person I’d end up with,” Trebek shared.

Throughout his time on the show, Alex Trebek found his way into the hearts of millions of Americans. Equipped with his dry jokes and soft-spoken voice, Trebek became a household name and an icon.

In an interview with NPR, Trebek spoke about how his role on the show affected his own life.

“I seem to be, you know, your uncle, your friendly neighbor, and people react to that in a positive way. They feel comfortable with me. And so when you combine all of those things, it makes for a pretty pleasant experience for the television viewer. They don’t feel, oh, gosh, you know, this is a good game, but that host, he’s really obnoxious.”
