‘Jeopardy!’ Icon Matt Amodio Celebrates Raising More Money Than Game Winnings for Charity

Yesterday, former “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio witnessed more money being made in nine hours than all the winnings he earned in 38 games.

A YouTube channel called The Game Theorists organizes an event every year called The Game Theory $1,000,000 Challenge for St. Jude. The goal, clearly, is to raise $1 million in donations for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Matthew Patrick (MatPat) is the YouTuber who hosts the event, and he invites other big-name online personalities to come on to the nine-hour-long stream. During the stream, the YouTubers and celebrities will participate in different fun and crazy activities for the enjoyment of viewers (donators) at home.

Coincidentally, MatPat and “Jeopardy!” champ Matt Amodio graduated from the same high school. So, MatPat reached out to Amodio as a fellow local legend to help host one of the mini-games during the event. The minigame, of course, being trivia-related.

So, Amodio showed up on set (in a very dapper all-black suit) to try his hand at asking the trivia questions. And at one point during his stint on the live stream, the hosts asked how much money he earned during his record-breaking “Jeopardy!” run. He told them about $1.5 million. That prompted MatPat to set a new challenge: To raise more money than Amodio’s winnings for St. Jude.

And, believe it or not, The Game Theorists did just that. By the end of the stream, the group surpassed Amodio’s total winnings over 38 “Jeopardy!” games. In fact, they ended up raising almost $1.7 million total for cancer research.

Amodio celebrated the incredible achievement with a shoutout on his Twitter page.

“I was so proud to take part in the #MillionDollarChallenge charity for @StJude. Not only did we meet the original goal, but we even met @MatPatGT’s secondary goal of surpassing the dollar amount of my winnings on @Jeopardy! Very glad to lose in this way!” Amodio wrote on Twitter.

‘Jeopardy!’ Champ Matt Amodio Loses Blue Verified Check After Participating in Charity Event

The two can’t be related, right? “Jeopardy!” champ Matt Amodio certainly hopes not. He took to Twitter earlier yesterday to express his confusion with fans over the turn of events.

During his 38-game run on the game show, Amodio received the blue verified check on Twitter, which basically shows that he’s someone of importance/celebrity status. But per his latest tweet, he apparently lost the blue verified check. And right after participating in The Game Theorist’s charity event to raise money for St. Jude.

“One day after participating in the wonderful @StJude charity event, my blue check has disappeared? We now know how @Twitter feels about helping children in need, apparently,” Amodio wrote earlier in his first tweet. He soon followed it up with, “I never thought trying to fight cancer would be what gets me canceled.”

Will Twitter ever answer for this grave injustice? Stay tuned to find out, Outsiders.
