‘Jeopardy!’: Matt Amodio Participates in Challenge to Raise $1 Million for St. Jude

Former “Jeopardy!” champion Matt Amodio lent his trivia skills to a charity event that hopes to raise $1 million for St. Jude.

The event is The Game Theory $1,000,000,000 Challenge for St. Jude. Hosted by YouTuber Matthew Patrick (MatPat), different celebrity YouTubers will participate in fun games and activities on a 9-hour long live stream. Viewers who watch the stream can make a donation to St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital. The goal by the end of the stream is to make over one million dollars for the organization.

Amodio’s role is not to answer trivia questions, but actually ask them of other competitors. He’ll be behind the podium this time around, forming questions in different categories to keep competitors out of a ~sticky~ situation.

MatPat reached out to the “Jeopardy!” champ because they coincidentally went to the same high school in Medina, Ohio. The YouTuber clearly realized that trivia would be right up Amodio’s alley, making him the perfect host/MC/trivia question reader.

Earlier this week, when the “Jeopardy!” champion wrote an article for Newsweek, Amodio mentioned that he’d be participating in the event and what that meant to him.

“It’s a surreal experience because I see there are people at the event who are really famous and have millions of followers on social media, and then there’s me, Matt. But it feels good to imagine that my name belongs on that list,” Amodio wrote.

Leading up to the event today, Amodio also posted an update on his Twitter page and invited followers to check it out.

“I’m sure you’re already watching (it’s started!), but don’t forget to check out the fun and games I’ll be involved in for the #MillionDollarChallenge today at ~3:40 pm EST,” Amodio said on Twitter.

Luckily, Outsider happened to catch the live stream right as Amodio stepped into his role as host.

What Did ‘Jeopardy!’ Champion Matt Amodio Do To Raise Money for St. Jude?

During the live stream, Amodio stood behind a podium, and in front of him stood three large boxes. Inside each box were several buttons, of varying shapes/sizes/colors. The front of the box was clear plastic, and the top had a hole cut out of it.

Three contestants sat inside the box and had to push a button to try to escape. If they pressed the right button, the plastic fell down and they could leave. But if they hit the wrong button, then some kind of substance would be dumped on their head from above.

Here’s where the “Jeopardy!” champion came in. After hitting the wrong buzzer, contestants had one shot to answer a trivia question and pass their punishment on to the next contestant. Amodio played the role to perfection, channeling his inner Alex Trebek and laying out each question just right.
