Monday “Jeopardy!” highlighted current champion Jonathan Fisher, who just won his 11th game and apparently has a rather expressive face.
The game show’s official Instagram account posted a video that compiled all of Fisher’s best “faces” together. And boy, “Jeopardy!” did not lie; he really does make pretty animated faces for different scenarios during gameplay. There’s his “game” face, “thinking” face, “picking a category” face, “Daily Double” face, “Did I get that right?” face, “That was a tough clue” face, “Playing it safe” face, and “winning” face.
Some contestants on the game show like to play it cool and act nonchalantly throughout the entire game. But not Fisher. He told “Jeopardy!” during an exclusive interview that he only ever expected to win one game, so he seems surprised by each and every win he tacks on. And that surprise translates into some pretty hilarious facial expressions.
“Is Jonathan Fisher a real-life emoji?! 😄🤨☹️😬🧐 Congrats on his 11th win!” the game show captioned their video featuring “The Many Faces of Jonathan Fisher.”
Fisher recently made “Jeopardy!” history by becoming the only person to unseat a double-digits winner and then earn a double-digit win streak for himself. The game show called him and Matt Amodio, who won 38 games before falling to Fisher, “back-to-back super champs!” earlier this week.
Fisher still has a ways to go to catch up to Amodio, but he’s already making ground on the official “Jeopardy!” Hall of Fame leaderboard. The 11-day champ is now tied for the 10th spot on the board with Arthur Chu, who won 11 games back in 2014. If Fisher wins tonight, he officially unseats Chu on the leaderboard.
And then there’s the spot for highest regular-season earnings. Seth Wilson holds the bottom spot right now with $265,002. After his 11th win, Fisher stands at $246,100. Next game could be the game to put Fisher on top in that category too.
‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Divided on Whether or Not They Like Current Champ Jonathan Fisher
For a while now, many “Jeopardy!” fans have felt divided by the new current champion. Some miss Amodio, and others just can’t get behind Jonathan Fisher. You can really see the lengths of division in the game show’s most recent Instagram post about Fisher becoming an emoji, with comments ranging from supportive to discouraging.
“I love Jonathan! Great personality and fun to watch,” one user commented. Another wrote, “He just rubs me the wrong way..something about him. I just don’t like him. Hasn’t been the same since Amodio left.”
A different fan said, “Jonathan is a great player and I’m glad to see him doing so well!” While someone else mentioned, “I hope he loses. He looks like an extra in an 80’s Jason movie…”
“Jeopardy!” fans just really can’t decide whether they love him or hate him. Stay tuned to see if Fisher’s win streak continues tonight.
