Jeopardy! chap Matt Amodio can’t get the “Ken Jennings Smell” out of the winner’s podium in a funny new post. Amodio has been taking Jeopardy! fans by storm as he continues his winner’s streak and gets closer and closer to beating Ken Jenning’s record.
Amodio recently responded to Jenning’s tweet where he simply responded “Woah” to Amodio winning yet another game, gambling big money at the end. Seriously. Amodio took a very risky wager that could have cost him everything if he was wrong. But he was right, and it earned him $83k in a single night. It’s his highest single-game total so far.
“Now only if I could get that Ken Jennings smell out of the Jeopardy winner’s podium,” he joked.
Amodio actually got inspired to go on Jeopardy! when watching Ken Jennings play. Now, as he continues to get wins under his belt, he’s coming both for Jenning’s record-breaking winning streak and Jennign’s record winning earnings.
“I won the annual rent for my apartment in my first game, and that was an optimistic best-case scenario I had in mind going in: being able to pay a whole year in rent,” Amodio wrote in a Newsweek column. “Then I got to the point where I thought I could consider winning $100,000. Then $250,000 happened, then $500,000 and then $1,000,000. I guess the ultimate goal is to win one dollar more than Ken and to have the record for the show!”
Amodio has won 1.3 million dollars on the show so far. Jennings won 2.5 million during his time on the show.
Matt Amodio is a Breath of Fresh Air for ‘Jeopardy!’ Fans
One fan’s response to Ken Jenning’s tweet is exemplary of how many fans feel.
“With all of the bad news we are subjected to in this day and age, it has been a relief to watch Matt Amodio on Jeopardy. Even though Jeopardy is only a half-hour, it’s been a great escape from reality,” the fan wrote. Jeopardy! has always provided some fun distraction for its fans, but Amodio being on the show is making it exhilerating.
Not to mention, Jeopardy! fans recently had that escaped kind of ripped from them when the show made headlines for all the wrong reasons. After months of searching for a permanent host, Jeopardy! decided to hire an executive producer from within who turned out to have a controversial past. The Mike Richards scandal rocked Jeopardy! and is still being discussed.
Amodio has insisted that he hasn’t minded playing under so many rotating hosts because the nature of the questions is always the same. Amodio’s presence on the show shows that no matter what, the game is still solid, exciting, and provides that great little 30-minute escape.
