‘Jeopardy!’: Mayim Bialik Announces ‘Class Is in Session’ with New Photos of Professors Tournament

by Leanne Stahulak

“Jeopardy!” host Mayim Bialik shared several photos from her first week of hosting the first-ever Professors Tournament.

We’re over halfway through the first round of the competition, where 15 professors from 15 separate universities competed each night for a spot in the semifinals. Out of the five matches this week, one winner from each match will secure a spot in the semifinals. And the four professors who earn the highest amount of money in second place will also advance as wildcards to the semifinals.

So, nine total professors in the semis, battling each other in three separate matches for a spot in the Top 3 for the finale. It promises to be a tough fight to the end as the academics test their trivia knowledge on the “Jeopardy!” stage.

But Bialik seems like she’s having the time of her life. In the photos below, we see her posing with the 15 professors, reading questions from the podium, handling the “Final Jeopardy!” card, and interacting with the contestants.

“Class is in session! Welcome to the first-ever #ProfessorsTournament on @Jeopardy!” Bialik captioned the clever post.

‘Jeopardy!’ Host Mayim Bialik Discusses Having Parents as Educators

This tournament clearly hits home for “Jeopardy!” host Mayim Bialik, having grown up with two parents as academics herself. In a recent Instagram post from the show, Bialik opened up about what it means to be on stage with these 15 professors.

“Being surrounded by so much knowledge and also such enthusiastic professors, it reminded me of the best of academia,” Bialik said in an exclusive “Jeopardy!” interview. “And that’s really what we have here.”

Only the best of the best could compete in the first-ever Professors Tournament. The winner snags not only a $100,000 prize but also a coveted spot in the highly-competitive 2022 Tournament of Champions. But those professors wouldn’t be on that stage without the community supporting and uplifting educators.

“My parents had a combined 70 years of public school service as English teachers,” Bialik said. “I grew up believing that teachers were not just people who taught things but people who guided you in your journey in education and in life.”

It’s a beautiful statement about the role teachers play in our lives. Everyone remembers at least one teacher who made class just a little more interesting and engaging, right?

When “Jeopardy!’ shared Bialik’s interview and quote about teachers, the show captioned the post, “Teachers and professors, thank you for guiding us through school and life! #ProfessorsTournament. Click the link in our bio to hear Mayim’s full interview.”

Make sure you check out the rest of the Professors Tournament tonight and tomorrow on ABC. And don’t miss the semifinals later next week.
