Let it be known that “Jeopardy!” guest host Mayim Bialik never tried to hide the fact that her family did NOT grow up watching the game show. Bialik stated this multiple times during her first stint as guest host in early 2021.
She didn’t want to lead people on or have them think that this was a show she cherished growing up. We’re not quite sure when Bialik discovered “Jeopardy!”, but based on audience reaction she’s done a pretty phenomenal job as host so far.
Earlier this week, Bialik expanded on her family’s “Jeopardy!” discovery on The Kelly Clarkson Show. The country singer brought up the fact that she’d heard Bialik’s mom had never watched the show. “Which I find crazy,” Clarkson added.
“My parents were documentary filmmakers, public school teachers, super Bohemians,” Bialik explained on the show. “‘Jeopardy!’ was not a show that they watched. I was very clear about this, I did not want the American public to think like, ‘Oh, I claimed I grew up…’ No, that wasn’t our thing. Other things were our thing, but that was not a thing.”
This is a fair point. While “Jeopardy!” was a staple in several American households over the last 40 years, it’s not a show for everyone. But all that changed when Bialik landed the hosting gig in 2021. Her parents wanted to support her and the show, so they started watching. But they quickly had a lot of questions for Bialik.
“When I started guest-hosting ‘Jeopardy!’, I got a string of texts from my mother,” Bialik revealed. “‘Why is everything asked in the form of a question?’ Over and over. And I didn’t answer her.”
Bialik shared a screenshot of the text messages between her and her mother. When her mother asked why, Bialik just replied, “Because that’s ‘Jeopardy!’.” Check out the interaction between the host and Kelly Clarkson below.
‘Jeopardy!’ Host Mayim Bialik Tells Fans to Prep for College Championship Tournament
In just a few weeks, fans will get to witness the first every “Jeopardy!” College Championship Tournament, hosted by Mayim Bialik. She announced that the show will air on Feb. 8, 2022, earlier this week.
“Get your bracket ready for the Primetime @Jeopardy! National College Championship! Join me, your host, as 36 undergrads compete for $250,000, beginning Tuesday, Feb 8 on @ABCNetwork and Stream on Hulu,” Bialik wrote on Twitter earlier.
She also included a 30-second promo for the first-time tournament. It looks intense and full of fun, as the 36 undergrads compete for a quarter-million dollar prize. And an awesome-looking trophy.
Make sure you mark your calendars, “Jeopardy!” fans, because this tournament looks just as promising as the previously held Professors Tournament. We can’t wait to see what these bright young minds are made of later this month.
