‘Jeopardy!’: Mayim Bialik Starts Tonight, How Long Is She Hosting?

Jeopardy! is taking a massive step toward having a permanent host tonight. This season won’t have a long line of guest hosts. Instead, the show will feature two hosts who will step behind the lectern as often as they can. Big Bang Theory alum Mayim Bialik and Jeopardy! legend Ken Jennings will share the hosting duties. Bialik steps up to the podium to kick off her tenure as host tonight.

Mayim Bialik will host the daily episodes of Jeopardy! through November fifth, according to Deadline. After that, she and Ken Jennings will share hosting duties as their schedules allow. Both hosts have busy schedules. So, it makes sense that they will take the stage when they have time to do so.

Ken Jennings hosts a podcast called Omnibus and is one of the Chasers on the hit quiz show The Chase. Additionally, Jennings works as a consulting producer for Jeopardy!. Mayim Bialik currently stars in the Fox sitcom Call Me Kat. The network recently renewed the show for its second season. So, both hosts have plenty on their plates. So, we won’t know what the overall schedule looks like until much later.

However, we do know that Jeopardy! films five episodes in one day. So, it is likely that Bialik and Jennings will host in week-long blocks after the first week of November.

How Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings Landed the Hosting Gig

Both Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings have walked a long road to their shared hosting position. It all started in November of 2020 when Alex Trebek passed away. Showrunners wanted to be careful when picking a new full-time host. So, they enlisted a long line of guest hosts to try out for the job.

Ken Jennings seemed like the obvious pick. After all, he’s a Jeopardy! legend. At the same time, many fans as well as the show’s staffers believe that Trebek wanted Jennings to take his place. However, he was snubbed in favor of Mike Richards.

Most fans liked Mayim Bialik as a host. So, when it came time to move forward with the selection, showrunners picked her. However, she was originally slated to host the spinoff and primetime episodes of Jeopardy! while now-disgraced executive producer Mike Richards hosted the daily episodes.

However, when Richards’ past disastrously caught up with him, he stepped down from the job. Before he lost his executive producer position on the show, he announced that this season would feature another line of guest hosts. This prompted a chorus of “here we go again,” from many fans.

However, shortly after Sony cut ties with Richards completely, we learned of the new hosting setup.

We won’t know who the permanent host will be until much later. However, Jeopardy! fans will have some stability with Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings at the reigns.
