Kelly Clarkson Reveals How She Deals With Emotions Amid Divorce

by Matthew Memrick

Singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson has struggled to deal with her emotions on the heels of her recent messy divorce.

Clarkson filed for divorce last June from Brandon Blackstock after nearly seven years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences in the legal proceedings.

Clarkson, 39, and the 46-year-old Blackstock have had to work through issues like co-parenting, their shared properties, and communication.

The couple married in 2013 after a two-year courtship. The couple and two children spent several months together living in Montana during the pandemic before the divorce.

Clarkson won the Montana ranch that Blackstock stayed in during the divorce proceedings. The star sold a seven-bedroom, nine-and-a-half-bath Nashville, Tenn. mansion for $6.3 million in late June. She also owns an $8.5 million property in Encino, Calif.

Her former husband also served as her manager to make things worse. Blackstock’s management firm had a dispute over Clarkson’s management fees as part of the legal battle.

Kelly Clarkson Dealing With Emotions

The former American Idol winner said she’s an emotional person in public and private situations, and the unexpected divorce has made her world challenging.

Recently, Cinemablend reported that she opened up on her talk show to actress Heather Locklear.

Locklear, known for her movie roles and time on FOX sitcom “Melrose Place,” brought up the subject of crying in the shower, and Clarkson didn’t hold back.

“Oh my God, a shower cry,” she said. “I love a shower cry! It feels good and like nothing’s really happening, you know?”

She also told NBC host Willie Geist that she’s talked to divorced friends and, at the time, she didn’t know how people “go through that without having some kind of outlet because it is the worst thing ever for everyone involved.”

Locklear, herself, has experienced two public divorces to Tommy Lee and Richie Sambora.

Outside Pressure On Kelly Clarkson

Clarkson has the added pressure of being in the spotlight while going through her divorce. But she’s poured herself into her work with “The Voice” coaching gig, too.

She was overcome with emotion while talking to “The Voice” contestant Shadale. The contestant’s powerful performance seemed to move Clarkson. On another occasion, the host used a few “Kellyoke” sessions to get through some feelings about her ex-husband.

Needless to say, Clarkson’s fans know she’s doing her best whenever they see her.

Kelly Clarkson’s Official Divorce Day

With her divorce official on Aug. 3, fans learned the judge upheld her pre-nuptial agreement. Clarkson also won primary custody of her children.

In September, her “Christmas Isn’t Canceled (Just You)” came out before her breakup-oriented Christmas album. The album is titled “When Christmas Comes Around…”

The album is her second Christmas one and her ninth overall.
